The reproductive parts are present in the flower of a plant. The male portion of the flower is called stamen and the female part is called the pistil. The stamen consists of anther and filament. Anthers harbor the pollen grains. The pistil possesses stigma and style. Dissection of reproductive parts primarily refers to the removal both anther and stigma, or either one of it. For majority of flowers the dissection can be carried out using a simple microscope. The materials required for dissection is also not much demanding. In most of the cases only a forceps and needle aid dissection.
This video mainly focuses on the dissection of reproductive parts from Oryza sativa (Rice). Rice spikelets that have undergone anthesis are selected for dissection. Rice grain consists of six anthers, a carpel, lodicles, lemma, palea and glumes. The rice reproductive parts of rice consist of six anthers and a carpel. The dissected anthers and carpel are then studied according to the need
