Dissidia 012: Duodecim - Vaan vs. 000 Feral Chaos (Perfect Run)

One becomes much more appreciative when one walks a mile in another person's shoes. Or whatever Feral Chaos has for shoes.

Lack of Vaan's FFTA2 shirt in Story Mode makes me sad. So rather than spend several minutes staring at his inferior shirtless form, I decided to switch things up and watch the battle from Feral Chaos's point of view. Everything looks smaller from this vantage point...
Vaan has a lot of great tools for this fight. Several of his switch attacks have guard stagger or crush properties, allowing them to compete with what Feral Chaos has. In EX mode, all of his switch attacks gain even more bonuses; for example, switch Sword & Shield's block priority becomes strong enough to block Vicious.
However, there are a few things you should be aware of if you're using Vaan for this fight. First, some of his switch attacks have pretty long delay. Switch Katana is the big offender here, as it's so slow that you'll rarely ever hit Feral Chaos with it. I can only seem to land it reliably as a punisher for Ventus Ire, which wasn't used in this run. Second, Vaan's switch attacks tend to last a long time. This is no problem if you hit, but if you end up whiffing, then there's a chance that Feral Chaos may wise up and punish you before you can dodge cancel.
While in EX mode Vaan can switch back to being barehanded by pressing R + []. I didn't really make use of this, though, as I wasn't crazy about the delay (it's a lot slower than Cecil's job change) and I was fine alternating between switch Greatsword (most reliable wall rush) and Spear (best damage in EX mode).
Also, Crossbow sucks for a perfect run.

While that may be true, Vaan was originally planned to be nothing more than a guest character who just threw out potions. (Basch was the original main character, but SE thought he he wouldn't appeal to the target demographic. Thus Vaan's inclusion.) In the end, the story was slightly rewritten so that it happened from Vaan's view rather than Basch's. His last minute addition may not have given the writers enough time to make him seem more important. Despite that, he's still a good character.

Actually, Basche was supposed to be the main character, but SE thought that he wouldn't appeal to their target audience so they bumped Vaan up from a ont-time NPC to the main playable character. THen rewrote some sections so that Vaan and Basche would share the main character slot.

there's a mistake with vaan's ult D; when u see the animation vaan's is facing the camera with his back to the opponent and when u kill someone u can see vaan's facing the opponent with his back to the camera D;

Ashe was the main character of FFXII, but when you think about it, maybe if the game was focused through her eyes, you would just be thrown into the middle of an event where you had no idea on what was going on. By playing it from Vaan's point of view, you actually get a chance to learn about the story, rather than just being thrown into it.

Technically, he was put as the protagonist so we could view the plot from a perspective other than the main character's point of view. See it as playing FF7 from Tifa's point of view.

Mostly Jecht is your Assist character in this boss fight. I think Kuja is a good assist character to use.

I didn't know Ashe was the main one. I mean, everyone know that was Vaan but that's it, no one thinks that he is good enough for the title (like i said before e.e). What i want to say is that i don't like Vaan in FFXII bcause he is useless...like they said here "u can catch the main story and the important parts of the game if Vaan is not there" (so, the game would be exactly the same, he IS useless x.x) (sorry if i'm being too confusing xDD)

really ? in my playthrough the game i felt the story was more focused on Balthier than the other guys ofc they had to have a motive to be there and a little space in the storyline to make some sencen, right ? but i always felt that Balthier was the main character

He was put as protagonist on purpose even if he does nothing? excuse me? xD All protagonists on FF DO something...this Vaan is useless as a main like Penelo...Ashe even Balthier were better for the title of protagonist in FFXII. So, like Parallaxal said, ppl don't hate him for his gameplay on Dissidia but for he itself on FFXII. (me included u.u)
