Such a helpful guide! You never realize how much there is behind the watering of plants but those minerals you don’t see can have all sorts of effects the plants

Great video!! I use pH test strips for pools- you get a ton of strips for really cheap and it tests a bunch of different things including pH!

Yes, the test strips are cheaper too!

I got excited when I saw Datu Puti vinegar. I was just searching if tap water is good for houseplants.

What if I can't collect rain water easily because I live in an apartment and there's too much flouride and chlorine in my city water. and my plant is a delicate little dracaena?

What about bottled spring water?
@arlag75503 жыл бұрын
Distilled water, is definitely NOT the same as boiled tap water. Specially because its harmful for animal consumption as it has no minerals and causes hemolytic anemia. I know were talking bout plants but theres always someone who might think "Hey its the same as boiled tap water ill drink it or give it to the cat". Thanks for the video cheers!

Do you have any insight about removing chlorine and chloramine from tap water? I have heard of using GreenGro or an aquarium water conditioner such as API or Aquaeon (but I am not sure these two are safe for houseplants ie philodendrons) but havent experimented yet. Thanks!

Distilled water is not “essentially” boiled water. Boiling is a step in distillation. Drastically different results. Catch a different video people. This is no expert.

00:28 I have watched your channel for a while which has helped so much with my plants. I disagree with your "any kind of water is good for plants," I used tap before using filtered and I had plants, especially my peace lilys, caladiums, and anthuriums that hated it. I recommend using filtered water for indoor plants, it doesn't need to be fancy but in my experience just tap will work for most but not all.
@MyWastelessLife4 жыл бұрын
I don’t disagree, some people do see a difference in using distilled water or filtered water for their plants, especially with the varieties of plants you mentioned, and of course our quality of tap water differ depending where we are. But for most houseplants, tap water is proven to be fine and can easily be amended to suit different plant needs. And it’s anecdotal but most plant people I know find it hard to keep up with using distilled or filtered water for their plants and often revert back to using tap water and their plants do okay. But it’s all preference and we do what works for us! 😊

@@MyWastelessLife 👏👏👏 The essence of plant keeping, not everything works for everyone. Biggest thing I found from plant groups and KZbin, people find their own rhythm for the best care of their plants.

Thank you for the great info. I water my collection with rain water in rain season( I have a rain barrel). However, I own some plants like ctenathe and baby bunny belly that can only be watered with rain water.
@MyWastelessLife4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, some plants do require softer water. Carnivorous plants also prefer rainwater and some city waters are too hard for them.

Thank you so much for the information about the ph up & down. I purchased a PH meter and have found it to be useless, luckily I waited before I purchased the up/down solution. I have horrible tap water, so I am looking for ways to improve the quality without purchasing distilled or purified. I purchased a water conditioner designed for aquariums and betta fish. Have you heard anything about using this type of conditioner for watering plants.?

If you have a private well you can use tap water. If you pay a water bill, you have public water loaded with chemicals. I use distilled water for prayer plants, peace Lilly and spider plants the rest get tap water

Boiling water and cooling it down is not the same as distillation!
@MyWastelessLife4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I said that too, but if the end goal is to get rid of contaminants in water then boiled water achieves that too. If minerals is the issue, there are ways to amend our water as mentioned in the video to get the similar results as distilled water for our plants. It boils down to preference and how much you’re willing to spend on your plants to water them.
@JungleApartmentBerlin3 жыл бұрын
The problem that occurs when you boil water, is that you basically just increase the concentration of minerals in the boiled water because you remove some water through steam from the total amount of water. Whereas when you distill water the minerals stay in the boiling vessel because you let the steam escape it, collect it while the steam becomes liquid again when it cools down.

Rainwater is better and also it's soft water 😁
@The_Crazy_Monkey753 жыл бұрын
Correction, RAIN WATER is actually Nature's way of making "Distilled Water". It is evaporated by nature, leaving behind all the minerals that it used to have in the ground. That is actually how Distilled bottled waters are made, by evaporation.

Rain water absorbs nitrogen as it falls. Plants do well with it.

In plant cells there is a higher mineral concentration thus a lower water concentration distilled water has no minerals at all and no it is not heated tap water it is water that is evaporated and condesed in another container separeting minerals and water that water through osmosis moves into the cell watering it more efficiently It does give your plant less minerals and kills it if you use only distilled water Use it only when it is dying because of underwatering Epsom salt does the opposite it drains the water from the cells killing it Dont think that more minerals means better it is a balance
