Over the last 13 years, Distillique has been involved in setting up more than 136 Commercial Craft Distilleries, not just in South Africa, but also in Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Zambia, Malawi, Kenya, Seychelles, Mauritius, Ireland, Lebanon, Italy, Australia, Angola, and hopefully soon, Bali, Tanzania and Uganda.
Craft Distillers are unique.
They combine dreams, innovation, art, science, history and entrepreneurship, all in one package.
A Craft Distiller needs to a Marketer, an Accountant, a Production Manager, a Chemist, a Public Speaker, a Biologist, a Delivery Driver, a Cleaner, a Human Resource Manager, and much more, all at the same time.
As a rule Craft Distillers are also very much aware of their communities and their environment - being involved, responsible and sustainable - for they realize that without their Community supporting them, and their environment granting them the raw materials to utilize, they themselves would not be able to operate.
But these passionate individuals are continuously under threat.
Market forces, Mass producers, Governmental Red Tape, etc. etc. All of these factors impact on the Craft Distiller in ways that would make any sane person throw in the towel.
But not a Crafter ... The passion, determination and will to create something new, unique and original is what drives them. That, and the desire to share their creations with the world.
Through this series of video tours, Distillique, in cooperation with SACDI - the Southern African Craft Distilling Institute - will introduce you to some of these individuals, their Distilleries, and their products.
