KC tastes so good it has gotten me in trouble too many times so I don't drink it anymore.

This was absolutely perfect Buffalo Trace is a $25 whiskey and Knob Creek is a $40 whiskey. Knob creek goes on sale almost every month at $30-$35 dollars knobs creek would be a steal!

You definitely got it right. Both are delicious bourbons. KC just has a bit more going on in the flavor department.

@@BlindWhiskeyReviews I don't envy you. That winners bracket is tough. Thanks for doing bourbons that are accessible. Too many channels do shootouts with stuff that the average bourbon enthusiast can't get.

We are doing the same test as you, however, ours is not blind. We tend to agree. For this one, I brought out the Knob Creek 120 before I realized it. Once I got the correct one, we agreed totally. We appreciate your commentary. We try each of your tasting to see if we agree. So far, you are close to our selections.

You nailed it again! KC is the 2nd best in this shootout for me next to OF 100 of course. Beams older juice is so underrated. Unrelated note I scored a 2019 WLW this morning at regular retail! My first WLW ever. Cheers Jon!

Two of my standards...I started drinking knob 2003 when a friend left the remains of a bottle at my house...I've always enjoyed it...Buffalo Trace...just solid bourbon...and as long as we're talking bourbon, the extra years that becomes Eagle Rare is worth a go. Knob Creek is always available unlike Buffalo Trace which unfortunately in Texas is more of a challenge to get a hold of.
@BlindWhiskeyReviews4 жыл бұрын
Eagle Rare is definitely a good pour too. Strange that it's hard to get Buffalo Trace some places.

Is it even possible to nose and taste these two whiskeys and not know immediately which one is which? I mean, Knob Creek is so distinctive in it´s aroma and taste that you just had to know which is which right away. The difference is so clear and obvious. It´s like comparing Glenfiddich 12 with Laphroaig 10.
@BlindWhiskeyReviews4 жыл бұрын
I would generally say that I could tell which one was which if I knew which two I was drinking. Through this shootout though I never knew what I was drinking at any time. I had my guesses which were often right but on a couple of occasions I was wrong. It was really interesting to see how the same whiskey tasted different when drank side by side with others. I really recommend trying it even on a smaller scale.

So, if you went knob creek for Jim Beam. Why not use Eagle Rare for Buffalo Trace. I’m not sure the options are fair to compare.
@BlindWhiskeyReviews4 жыл бұрын
Good question. There was a few reasons. One of the requirements was the whiskey had to be under $30. While I can find Eagle Rare for $30, generally it is a few dollars more at most places. Also, I feel like Eagle Rare is s more of a premium offering and didn't really represent the "Workhorse" theme I was going for. Lastly, another requirement was that the whiskey is widely available. While ER certainly is widely available, in the past couple years it has become allocated and much more difficult to get in certain areas. This again was a bit counter to my workhorse theme. Hope that answers your question. Cheers!
@TheLivingstons4 жыл бұрын
Blind Whiskey Reviews it’s the opposite here in VA. Easy to find Eagle Rare. Buffalo Trace is rare. Eagle Rare is often on sale for $28.

I’m not getting the sweet fruit with KC. Definitely the herbal earthy nuttiness, and for sure the caramel vanilla, and the perfect (IMO) amount of smoke. I agree that BT is more fruit forward. I like them both, but KC wins in my book as well. I agree on the thinness of BT. Makes a nice Manhattan. KC is the better sipper.
@BlindWhiskeyReviews4 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I don't think I have ever found a smokey character in the standard KC. Ive had some older bottles that definitely had some oak char but they were 14 or 15 years old.

Cant say glue is a flavor I remember smelling but often fresh bottles have different smells. Sometimes a few days of being open does them a lot of good.

I watched this BT/KC and also BT/EC and wonder if the second offering has less prominent notes because the nose is sensitive and gets overloaded and shuts down after the first offering. Haven't watched any other challenge videos so maybe its just coincidence and I am overgeneralizing.
@megacab4 жыл бұрын
I enjoy buffalo trace, but it's extremely hard to get in NC. I think that's why some people think it's so great because of the limited supply. Honestly, it just made me go with other whiskeys. BT is slightly overhyped because it's so hard to get around here.

It is definitely overhyped. It is a good solid pour and its well worth the $20 price tag. But I wouldnt pay much more

I don't understand why people waste time making these videos. Everyone has different palates so taste is not going to be the same for everyone. This guy taste fruits in BT and I don't get a hint of fruit. I would not run out and buy a bottle of anything based on these reviews.

You are right, everyones palate is different. But that doesn't mean that there are not people with similar palates. Find a reviewer whos palate lines up with yours and use that info to help you make you whiskey choices.
