MatPat has a whole video about the question in the title (Food Theory: What Makes a Sandwich a Sandwich?), and the answer is: it depends on how you define "sandwich". He ended up citing a ruling from the Massachusetts Superior Court that used the definition of sandwich as "two thin pieces of bread, usually buttered, with a thin layer (as of meat, cheese, or savory mixture) spread between them". Under that definition, a hotdog is not a sandwich because "it does not have two pieces of bread, is not typically buttered, the layer of meat is not thin, and the hotdog weiner does not get spread across the bread" 🌭

I eating a mix of food items, containg the following: 2 slices of toasted bread, for bottom and top 2 slices of cheese, cheddar kind. 1 boiled egg, that has been sliced and placed neatly around the toasted bread. 2 bacon strips, crispy kind 1 spoonful of tuna 2 big lettuce leaves It is very good mix, I would recommend it

My opinion of "Is a hotdog a sandwich" is this: It depends on one of two categories, 1.) you consider subway sandwiches to be sandwiches, if so then yes a hotdog is a sandwich as it is essentially a subcategory of that, kind of like how a tomato is a fruit but you probably don't refer to it as one. 2.) you don't, therefore no it wouldn't be. It all comes down to what you think about the type of sandwich a subway sandwich is, if you don't consider it one then you wouldn't by extension consider a hotdog to be a sandwich. Regardless however, even if you did you probably still wouldn't refer to a hotdog as a sandwich.

In respect to is hotdog a sandwich or a taco, my argument that what is different about a sandwich from a taco is the encasing. While it’s not encouraged, you could put anything IN a taco and sandwich, but the sandwich’s bread is baked, while a tortilla is made on a comal. Now, while a hotdog is significantly closer to a sandwich, it has one consistent thing, the pork. To identify something as a hotdog, it either has to have just the pork(hotdog), or the bread(HOT.DOG.BUN.) AND the pork(hotdog). While the hot dog bun is specifically made for the hot dog, you could technically use any other form of bread, as what is consistent with the hot dog is its pork. Notice how hotdogs(the pork) could be sold on their own, without the bun, or any form of bread. So just to recap, the hotdog is nothing like a taco, one needs something inside, it’s outside is baked, and could stand alone, as it’s defined by what is inside. A TACO can have anything inside, its outside is made by stove, and cannot stand alone, as it’s defined by the outside, yet still dependent on having SOMETHING inside. However, a hotdog is not exactly a sandwich, because they must have a form of bread, and something inside, and cannot be sold alone(bread or contents) while still being quantified as a sandwich, while a hotdog, once again, can stand alone as the content, and has a limited encasing options. One could argue that a burger is a sandwich, but what quantifies a burger is the patty inside. TLDR: hotdog is what is inside, while sandwich and taco are what is outside

Spanish here. Toast it's an action not a name, as you said if you TOAST bread it becomes TOASTed bread ("pan tostado" in spanish or "una tostada" what translates to "a toast") and that doesn't changest the fact that its just bread thats been toasted. For example I know a lot of people from the US knows the food "Carne Asada" but almost nobody knows it litteraly transtales to Grilled Meat, it's not a name, it's a label, it's just meat thats been grilled, it doens't changes it's name it just describes what process the meat has gone through. If in english "toast" it's a name english speakers applied to a specific dish just like Spaggetti it's the name of a certain way to cook Pasta then I'm with Mark on this one. Otherwise if it's not a dish then I don't get the comparison marks makes with a toasted bagel. In any case you're just eating toasted bread with toppings and fancy names 😂 Edit: Key word in this argumet was "Dish" and none of you figured out while describing what a Dish is 😂😂😂

I think a key point to bring up for a cannoli and dipping analogy is that a cannoli is not dipped during the eating process, it's dipped in the preparation process to make it a cannoli. Even then, its not always dipped.
