'Distressing Incidents': What NHRC Report Says About Sandeshkhali

A report from the National Human Rights Commission on Sandeshkhali violence highlighted alleged cases of gang rape by Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders within the party office.
An NHRC inquiry into the Sandeshkhali violence in West Bengal uncovered various human rights issues over recent years, including sexual exploitation, land grabbing, denial of voting rights, and a form of forced migration.
From February 23 to 25, an NHRC team member, Vijaya Bharathi Sayani, visited Sandeshkhali. They noted an atmosphere of intimidation and terror, leaving victims hesitant to seek justice.
The report highlighted various abuses faced by villagers, including assault, threats, sexual exploitation, land grabbing, and forced unpaid labour. Consequently, many were forced to seek livelihoods outside Sandeshkhali or the state.
