I can really appreciate Steiner. I was looking around for a set of rings for a G188B Case engine and could not find them anywhere. I contacted Steiner and was told that if they could find the it would be a special order. They called by back and said they found a set, it would be $70.00 and shipping would be an additional $70.00, I told Steiner that it was fine and used my credit card. When the rings arrived they were rings for a G149 Case engine. I contacted them and was told that they do not except returns for special orders. I informed them that they were the wrong rings and that they should except them back along with the shipping charge. They said they would get back to me. It has been months and no response. It's funny that Steiner wants everyone to praise them of social media.

Hi Norman, I looked at your account - I see we created a full return for you back in June - we are just waiting to receive the rings back. You should have received a return tag - if you need this resent, please let us know :)

Greetings, I have a 8n tractor I think according to its serial # its a 1948. It has a distributor I had to replace as the pin on the timing gear had sheared off. Since it had sheared and had turned over I had no idea where TDC was. ( Flywheel was impossible to read ) So I used the ole #1 piston on compression tactic. I also replaced everything in the electrical ignition system; that is a 12 volt by the way. I have worked on engines and cars since I was old enough to hold a wrench. My father was the foreman at the I.H. tractor repair shop I am now 60. My first tractor was a cub cadet hand crank start tractor.This engine is really simple the reason I chose to buy it and of course being financially challenged helped that decision along. Now my problem. I'm not really up to snuff on the conversion and the ballast resistor I had to install between the switch and the positive side of the coil. I replaced this also. Now the problem. When I went to check spark I would get a few blue sparks from the coil then nothing. I checked for power drop in the system. I found that when the points were open the voltage would be 12.3 when the points are closed 2.3. I have asked around even to the company that supplied me with the resistor and they didn't even know how or why it was needed. I have found that out only through a tireless investigation of the part. Some say it is only needed when the tractor is running and it is in charge mode. Some suggest to use a bypass when starting the tractor. Then use the regular system when the tractor is running. I tried bypassing the resistor again I got a blue strong spark for a few times again the spark failed after that. I'm flummoxed! How can such an engine be this persnickety? Can you help me? I would be eternally grateful if you could

When you mentioned that the firing order you pointed out on the cap the 1-2-3 then you said the cylinders on the motor are 1-2-3 but you did not have the camera positioned properly to see what end was one?
@SteinerTractorParts2 ай бұрын
The cylinder closest to the radiator is always cylinder one.

If you want and you feel comfortable doing it to it's easier to take the entire distributor out. BUT of course that means you have to do the ignition timing.

I have the same tractor and I'm having a heck of a time getting that back clip snapped back into place. Any pointers?
@ricklent65613 жыл бұрын
Should’ve that hard. Wiggle the cap usually goes on real easy
@danriley3893 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't have thought so either. Just can't get my hand back there to snap the clip over the cap!

Sometime I use a heavy long screwdriver to press it in.

I guess it's a good idea a great deal of the time to disconnect the battery when doing maintenance on a tractor. But how can you possibly get a short circuit spark on any of the ignition components with the ignition switch off?
@SteinerTractorParts10 жыл бұрын
***** I believe she was just thinking it is a good rule of thumb so you do not forget the one time that it would count. ;-)
@Frenchy305510 жыл бұрын
Good response to my comment, and I believe in SAFETY FIRST. But disconnecting the battery on some of these tractors can in itself produce some perils. If you just disconnect the battery ground wire there is still the potential for getting short circuit on the ignition components. So I guess the safest way would be to disconnect both battery cables.

Thanks! but how do you take off the dust cover thing after the distributor cap?
@SteinerTractorParts8 жыл бұрын
+Jill Schlueter Remove the rotor and the dust cover just pops off. It is a tight fit, but no screws or anything. -Tom

What? Love this vid, but could really have it finish with confirming correct timing. That's the part I need help with.

NO WHERE ON THE INTERNET does anyone tell the firing order for ford 4000 3 cylinder ---Rotation cap is 123 and on the motor from front of motor it is 123 going toward firewall ; But FIRING ORDER --------------------IS IT 123---------321----------312---------132----------WHY DOES everyone ignore this ?
