Just canalize it on other activities. Arts are a great option. Also try sports. You dont need to fool yourself pretending you dont feel sadness or rage; just use them to do something productive. Write a story, make a song, paint a painting, create a sculpture. Its heathy that way.

For the people who think this songs speaks about his mother, seriously. He speaks about the society and how it hits someone. Its a deep song and people must realise that THIS is music and how it puts "mother" as a word to describe something like society.

@KmarkecGamer9 жыл бұрын
***** This is what I think why it's about society. When society (people around you) hit you bad, you get depressed. If the whole bullying thing lasts for long, you become a dark person ("you've woken up a demon in me", "looking at my own reflection when suddenly it changes" "inside you the sickness is rising" etc). In the part with mother, it is quite well explained. At the beginning, you're like "why is society so mean to me, it hurts" and you're sad. But society "hits you and hits you", you get angry and you start hating the society out of revenge and start getting homicidal thoughts ("sadistic abusive whore", "wanna know how it feels mommy, get ready to die!"). At least this is my opinion, since I had the same experience a few years ago.
@alfpabravoloboking9 жыл бұрын
I though it was about in domestic advise, otherwise he wouldn't of referred at the object of his rage as mommy. Naturally, just like everything else, this can have multiple meanings depending on the person. However I think that the intended message is about anise in the family.

I laughed at the part that starts at 3:27 the first time i heard it. But in actuality, it's a sad situation that happens too often. Certain parents refuse to believe mental illness is a thing and think the kid just isn't being punished or threatened to act "right" enough.

Actually in that bit, where lead singer David Draiman acts out a skit where he is being abused by his mother, he's symbolizing how "mother society" abuses "her" children for not being the way "she" thinks they should. "She" keeps doing it until "her" children get sick of it and are so angry with her and themselves they go out and get revenge for it, most likely by killing the people that hurt them ("here it comes, get ready to die!") A good example of this would be the school shootings that go on around the country. But it can also mean different things for different people. Like with me, I'm a survivor of physical, emotional, and verbal abuse from both my biological mother and my stepmother. "No mommy, don't hit me" is something I'd always say during my beatings. It really is fascinating how people interpret that section of the song.

Song describes my childhood to a T. Had huge anger problems and did protect myself when old enough to although didn't kill my abuser. I was able to break that cycle with my own children thankfully. Promised myself that my kids wouldn't go through that earlier in life.

This song perfectly captures my rage from my childhood. 'cept my mother was amazing, so was my father. But my school, its student body, and its faculty? Fucked me for life. that was almost 13 years ago now, and I still carry the scars on my body and psyche.
@christinejoy84693 жыл бұрын
3:11 I can relate to this part... Because my trauma scenarios always come when my eyes were closed. Specially earlier, I dreamed about it again. Not my mother though, but her brother did bad to me. I forgave him already but the flashbacks suddenly... 😞

These are just words but, there mercy from the one who created everything. You have been trained and kept close by the hand of the mercy it self, none of your precious tears has fall for nothing. It woke the demon in you, the earth itself had raged, you could be the sickness too. But in the hands of mercy, you look at the reflection of yourself, you see the angel.

This is about how society treats people who are "different." A lot of people think they are "sick" and "wrong" and want nothing to do with them. In the middle of the song, lead singer David Draiman acts out a skit where he is being abused by his mother (not in the radio version). Finally, he builds up enough courage and hits her right back. This is used to symbolize how "mother society" abuses "her" children for not being the way "she" thinks they should. "She" keeps doing it until "her" children get sick of it and are so angry with her and themselves they go out and get revenge for it, most likely by killing the people that hurt them ("here it comes, get ready to die!") A good example of this would be the school shootings that go on around the country. Getting "Down With The Sickness" means accepting people for who they are so we can all function better.

What a tragic, yet powerful meaning behind this song.
@iprobablyforgotsomething4 жыл бұрын
That's... huh. You really made an impact with this. I'm not being sarcastic, I actually read and re-read it and really thought about it. Also, it suddenly makes the line "will you give it to me?" make sense; society being afraid that people who are different will "infect" them with their different-ness.
