if you haven't heard the original, you should check it out. If for no other reason than to see what it started as. Being that this is the version you heard first, I would guess that the original would seem rather quiet and passive to you now. But hearing the original gives you that much more appreciation for the power and emotion that David Draiman expresses in this version. I liked the original version fine, but the first time I heard this version I was awed by how powerful it is. TL;DR if you have to choose one, this is definitely the one to choose, but you should listen to the original if you have the opportunity

Heart breaking. Peace and love. When an intelligent person is faced with crisis, and considering their options, it is an out, a logical response to the absurdity we live in. 18 is so tender, and so packed with change, which is the clinical definition of stress, and yet so little understanding of life outside of their own block. Vulnerable period I think doesn't get enough specific attention. Mental health system, out patient therapy for certain, in general is a farce, it does more harm then good and should be shut down, because that would improve mental health. Christmas prayers to your family and you, Robert. I have a tealight holder which is an Inuit carving in soapstone. It is a sharing circle of 5 people joining hands around the fire. I lit one for your brother, or any souls that may be wandering close by, to have a safe rest. The Inuit have a tradition of stacking flat stones, into the rough shape of a person standing up and pointing, along a route as a marker of the path home, a spirit guide. Which they believe are inhabited by spirits. They are called Inukshuk. (EE-nook-shook). I put one beside the sharing circle, in the light. Best Wishes, friend. Happy Christmas, Peace to All of Us 💖🌏

@@vickygehrke7789 oh my :O i'm sorry to hear that :'( i have my reasons for being here at this video, buti can fight against it good luck with your loss as for the comment above: i do stop here once in a while, because that voice presses the tears out of my eyes i can't handle this song too many times, as it's pressing all the frustration out of me with tears but yes, i stop here when it's too much i always get weakened by it :P glad there's some music as for true "sound of silence", i have several video's on youtube i visit a lot, with beach or fireplace sounds and such, and they calm me down nicely good luck with the dark side of life, and stay strong.... i almost lost the right to say that at one point, but i somehow got through have a nice day :)

The absolute best ever version. I loved Simon and Garfunkel, but your passion just surpasses it. Can't stop watching it. I am 69 years, but you stir up feelings (cut it out, not like that). Just a feeling of energy I guess. k Thank you Susie

This song has been my favorite since the original came out in 1964....(yes I'm old...lol) but THIS...THIS is how I always envisioned the lyrics SHOULD be sung and the music played. I don't want to take away from Simon & Garfunkel in any way...but the lyrics just evoke the sadness and reverence that Disturbed has honored it with....THIS IS A MASTERPIECE. Thank you, Disturbed. Thank you Simon & Garfunkel.

Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence In restless dreams, I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone 'Neath the halo of a street lamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence And in the naked light, I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never shared And no one dared Disturb the sound of silence "Fools" said I, "You do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you" But my words, like silent raindrops fell And echoed in the wells of silence And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming Then the sign said, "The words on the prophets are written on the subway walls In tenement halls" And whispered in the sound of silence
