Jamal, I'm 62 yrs. old and had never in my life been to a concert. My husband's company had 4 tickets to see Disturbed in concert a few years back. I was thrilled to go and see Dave Draiman perform this song. I had to sit through lots of heavy metal (with my earplugs in) to finally see him do this song. On a hot and humid night in August with fire pyrotechnics all around him, Dave gave the best rendition of this awesome song. I was covered in goosebumps the whole time. I loved seeing your reaction to this! Truly a work of music artistry at it's finest!!!

David certainly has a rather unique voice, it can easily be recognized and his vocals are really hard to reproduce because hes just one of THESE singers however saying his voice is otherworldly is exaggeration, Chester Bennington had an otherworldly voice and so did Freddie Mercury but David just doesnt have you ever heard how many octaves and how many vocal chords people like Chester and Freddie had? it was truly ridiculous Chester literally had 2 different vocal chords in his voice and he could easily either hit a very strong octave or one of the softest octaves i have ever heard in music and he could do that at will instantly and i dont think i need to explain Freddie's unreal chord if you really require a sample as an example, listen to One Step Closer, Runaway or Forgotten by Linkin Park

Everything about the entire arrangement is beautiful. Anyone doing a critique has the same shock I had when hearing it for the first time. I'm grateful it came to me, though I can't recall how it did so. It's a song that was well known from the 60's and was a favorite of mine though now I'm touched even more by the version from the group Disturbed. Now I can't wait to get into them more. Thank you!!

I started playing "The Sound of Silence" in 1976 or 1977. I was scouring my dad's album collection for something new to listen to and I came across A Simon and Garfunkel album "The Sounds of Silence". Paul Simon had a pretty big hit around that time called "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" which I liked, so I thought I would give the album a listen. I was immediately dumbstruck by "The Sound of Silence". All I remember is that I kept playing the song over and over on a continuous loop. In those days vinyl albums were the primary media form for music. I probably ruined the needle on the turntable by my continuous restarting of the song. The song spoke to me, although at that tender age I had only a minor understanding of the significant lyrics of the song. This song was written the year of my birth so it has always had a special place in my heart. Now more than ever the relevance, cultural significance and importance of this song cannot be overstated. I finally heard "Disturbed 's" version through you "J aka J" and it was powerful. Thanks for another ride down memory lane.

That vocal effect you noted is what voice professionals call Vocal Fry, and what duffers sometimes refer to as “angry Cookie Monster.” The amazing talent of the man gives him the ability to kick-in just enough of it to add overtones to the timbre of his already amazing natural voice, making the timbre so acoustically broad it sounds like it’s thundering down from Heaven.

Disturbed took a great song and added all the emotion to it. One of the best versions of any song I've ever heard.
