Good interaction. By now, all are familiar with the history of conversions. Those who were converted are today strangely being blamed and demonized by those who were not. Times have changed, and neither the modern Portuguese are what they were then, nor the church is what they were then; both are progressive. But some Hindu organisations are reopening the past as if today's Christians and church is responsible for the past and should now be made to suffer. This thinking of few needs to change.

No, those fairytales about "forced conversions" were made up so that the native Catholic majority would feel guilty and wouldn't organise any pushback against the ghantti flooding that began into Goa last century. Even Velingkar admitted in an interview that his family moved to Veling village from Maharashtra only 36 years before he was born. Meanwhile, contemporary records have shown that the overwhelming majority of Goans (over 90% of the Velhas Conquistas) left Hinduism voluntarily because they preferred Christian European leadership to Saraswat Brahmin oppression - over 70% of Hindus weren't even allowed to enter temples but still had to give forced free labour for upper castes and money for temples, Hindu women couldn't inherit property, etc. So it's natural for Bamonns to push these narratives against Catholic Goans, Bamonns lost money and status when Goans abandoned Hinduism.

How n why n where did this start, one need to retrospect. This communal indifferences actually started in 80s when politicians like willy etc tried to communalise goan politics and more surprisingly, the church blindly ignored them n indirectly supported them- I refere here to konkan railway/konkani agitation where the whole incidents was portrayed as a fight between hindu n catholics!!!
