Something really disturbing about 0:40. Apparently, that should recreate how Sayori's suicide went. When someone hangs themselves "properly" their neck snaps. Well after they are already dead their body is obviously still hanging there...and while they hang their neck begins to slowly stretch out, because it is suddenly carrying a huge amount of dead weight. This would make a horrifying flesh stretching noise as it expands. As for the squeaking that everyone assumes is rats; while the neck is stretching any last pockets of air left in the throat is pushed out with all the force, emitting a high pitched squeaking noise. Now as we know Sayori did not fall from a great enough height meaning she instead essentially suffocated herself. This makes the sound even worse. This turns them into the sound of Sayori struggling against the rope, all of the air being sucked out of her by the tightness of the rope. This would also explain the red screen and pulsing veins; could possibly be all the pressure that might be accumulating in her brain. Would also explain the muffled music because of all the pressure on her ears.

actually Something really disturbing about 0:40. Apparently, that should recreate how Sayori's suicide went. When someone hangs themselves "properly" their neck snaps. Well after they are already dead their body is obviously still hanging there...and while they hang their neck begins to slowly stretch out, because it is suddenly carrying a huge amount of dead weight. This would make a horrifying flesh stretching noise as it expands. As for the squeaking that everyone assumes is rats; while the neck is stretching any last pockets of air left in the throat is pushed out with all the force, emitting a high pitched squeaking noise. Now as we know Sayori did not fall from a great enough height meaning she instead essentially suffocated herself. This makes the sound even worse. This turns them into the sound of Sayori struggling against the rope, all of the air being sucked out of her by the tightness of the rope. This would also explain the red screen and pulsing veins; could possibly be all the pressure that might be accumulating in her brain. Would also explain the muffled music because of all the pressure on her ears.

0:27 When you hear this in the game, you get the red filter with the pulsing veins on the sides, and shortly after you black out. IMO this is happening from Sayori's perspective while she is hanging. The sound is the rope crushing her neck and after a few seconds she is trying to pry it off with her fingers (like Monika tells you about in the 1on1). Kind of like how chewing and swallowing sounds are loud if you plug your ears. Sounds also tend to muffle out when you are close to passing out, hence the music being like that.

At first I assume that the subtle creepy laughter you hear in one of the tracks during Act 2 was Yuri's. But what if, in truth, it was not Yuri but actually Monika. Think about it; the track is played on a piano. And who plays piano in the club? That's right: it's Monika. And it was already established that whenever a piano track is played on-screen, Monika is somewhere watching you. So put two-and-two together, the end result would be Monika watching you being confessed to by Yuri while she subtly laughs maniacally knowing that what comes next, is pure entertainment for her.

14:11 it’s kinda sad because.. well let me explain If you said no to Yuri. She would be heartbroken. (Obviously) because if you don’t love her, what’s the point of living? She needs you to live, like she said, she feels like she’s gonna die if she’s not breathing the same air as you. So if you don’t return her feelings, what’s the point? So bam, she stabs herself. But if you say yes, it’s the same ending, but a different reason. So, Monika said that when Yuri gets to excited, she cuts herself. That’s why in act 2 she was more unhinged and always was finding ways to get close to you and then find a way to leave the room. She leaves the room so she can hide and cut herself. So, if you say yes to her.. she will be overwhelmed. She can’t take it. She is so excited, just overwhelmed with emotion and excitement. It’s literally too much for her to handle. So, she needs to relieve it... but she can’t with just simple cuts.. so bam.. stab wounds to herself and she’s dead. She knew something was wrong with her, and she couldn’t control herself. It was too much for her to handle, and she couldn’t control herself at that point... so she put herself out of her misery and out of that excitement. In a way she wanted to escape, because her heart was probably pounding so hard, she wanted it to stop, but she couldn’t control it. But, at the same time, she wanted to pleasure herself, but... her way of pleasuring herself is self harm so... she’s dead!

Ugh! I hate but love this soundtrack! I love how in the first act, the music is so fun and quirky and then that familiarity is just taken away and replaced with unnerving and freaky changes within the soundtrack, just with differences in key, extra sound FX of Yuri breathing and just generally the situation your put in as a character when all the chaos happens! Doki Doki is such a clever game in it's own ways, hats off to the producer of this soundtrack and the rest of the team for making such a great game :D

just a chemical but satisfaction brought it back. I’ve got both anxiety and depression, played this game, and went selectively mute for two weeks straight and couldn’t get either Sayori or Yuri’s death out of my head. I hung two nooses, one in my closet and one in the spare bedroom closet. I don’t know why I still have it downloaded, maybe for fun? I never play it anymore.
