I wouldn't say police sketches are meant to be "disturbing" but when they are made they are often drawn in a way to exagerate certain features so that they stick with you

in regards to the creepy police sketches, i recall watching a lazy masquerade video that explained how these sketches intentionally exaggerate notable features or qualities of the subject in order to try and make them appear more recognizable and distinguished to people who might recognize them. after all, which are you more likely to remember: the police sketch with regular, average features, or the one with giant distorted teeth or sunken, hollow eyes?

10:04 they make them disturbing and exaggerated because it sticks in the mind better because if it looked normal than it wouldn't be effective because it could look like anyone so they exaggerate it so if you know someone who has those features it recalls to the picture and thinks "hey my missing friend looks like that creepy police sketch" Mr cruel (middle sketch) is like that because they only know him for his balaclava that he wears Suitcase lady (right) was a decayed body of woman found in a suitcase due to the woman having chickmunk like cheeks the artist was told to exaggerate that Unknown (left) Unknown

10:08 iirc - the police intentionally make the faces more uncanny/unhuman so that it would stick around in your head for a while. If they looked too normal, they would just be generic faces and you would forget about them very quickly, so they purposely exaggerate certain features that stick out and make you think "hey, i know a person that had a very narrow face" or something

This is a really good video. I like how you tied them all together. I like your take on how edgy memes like HABBO can be fun, but when they get to the point of "an hero" become sad and depraved. I think our culture is full of apathy, and I can't blame anyone. Sometimes I think that affects people more than others. We become so numb we become horrible. I think it's happened to everyone in some capacity, as with the internet it's so easy to see how bad things are. Some people get pulled in to hard and lose themselves, becoming ill and cruel in their apathy. We have to try to keep each other from getting there and protect the people who do have optimism in this world. I hope we can weaponize post-modern apathy and our newfound cultural awareness for good and can get us and those who cause it to realize it doesn't have to be so awful all the time. The internet has been both the world's greatest blessing and it's greatest curse.

about Selene Delgado: very little people cover this case correctly. Only extremely gullible people believed the Florecita Dreams video over here. It's shitpost, you can see how the editor overlapped memes over the police sketches. The reason why Selene Delgado is scary is simply because of collective trauma. In Mexico missing people and femicides are horribly common. Us, the generation that grew up watching Canal 5 and those PSAs saw how those cases increased and the streets became more and more dangerous. We were also the generation that saw those cases get more publicity with tv covering and the internet. Now that we're adults, we find the PSAs scary because we realize how much that unsafety robbed us of our childhood and innocence. We realized that tomorrow the people on those PSAs could be our morhers, siblings, friends or ourselves. Lots of urban legends from poor and colonized countries are reflections of that kind of trauma. And all of this paired with the fact that the photo is simply unnerving, it becomes an urban legend.
