today i share and dive into some disturbing, strange, or unnerving reddit mysteries on r/tipofmytongue that are a bit more unknown compared to the well known internet mysteries or lost media cases. much like the evil farming game, celebrity number 6, or clockman. here we have a lost salad fingers-like cartoon, a disturbing cat jumpscare youtube video from the 2000s, a gorey anime advertisement, and a children's book detailing murder. will these ever be solved, or will they remain mysteries forever? or are they attempted creepypastas or saki sanobashi rip-offs? watch the video to find out!
intro: 00:00-01:22

I also saw the cat video and i was traumatized for a really long time, i couldn't even sleep. My mum made me draw the cat that was terrifying me and burn the paper. I didn't have any more nightmares after that, somehow getting rid of that image made me feel safe. Thanks mum

@@pepepecaspicapapas4726I'm confused. Is there any other evidence that they're riding the fame of Rowling, or is it just that they have a similar name? Because plenty of people have similar names, you know. And the book isn't remotely similar to Harry Potter, in style or story.

The book detailing murder for children sounds like a Roald Dahl book, they were surprisingly gruesome, and the art style was minimalist like they describe. some of books weren't so much stories as long poems, so they came across really weird. What they describe doesn't ring any bells, but I remember one with a picture of a little girl and her relatives limbs sticking out the ground. They did have sarcastic style to them too, has to be roald dahl book.

I have an idea about the Japanese suitcase ad. I think it might have been some kind of anti-suicide public service ad. Suicide is a major problem in Japan (tremendous social pressure, grueling work hours, etc.), and this could have been something aimed at preventing that. We had public service ads like that in the U.S. back in the day, I remember the "this is your brain on drugs" one.

As for the shrinking suitcase thing, I frequently get stuck scrolling through Facebook’s “Watch” function and there’s a weird genre of videos on foreign pages where they use a text to speech to insert a narration over movie or tv show clips. They’re usually more obscure or well known movies that have odd plots. The text to speech also NEVER matches the actual dialogue or plot of the movie. For example, it would be something along the lines of the grinch who stole Christmas classic animation, but the text to speech would say “he turned green one day” “now he is turned to a life of crime” “the smallest girl finds him” “he tells her to go back to bed so she can grow strong” when that’s not at all what the original media was doing.

Regarding the dark children's book, I think it was likely OP borrowed it from a library that had mislabeled it. I was an avid reader as a kid and would pick random books to read from my elementary school library. One I found had, literally the first page, "I can beat the shit out of anyone."

All these stories remind me of how I found a song i searched for for 15 years. Legit thought I made it up in my head until I randomly heard it in a mall. It had no words but I knew then it did exist Fast forward some years, it's the holidays. I hear that same song finish on my mother's phone & desperately asked her what it was 15 years of searching, remembering only 3 notes of the whole song all these years, I finally found "Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence." I cried. I cried so freaking hard and I have zero shame admitting that ♡ I went from endlessly searching, to accepting I made it up in my head, learning it was real and finally finding it thanks to sheer luck It's that feeling of rediscovery that makes me hope all of these people some day find the things they are desperately searching for. I know everyone is talking about the cat with millions of eyes but the thing that REALLY gets me about the cat jumpscare video is the part about the cat being "pulled out of it's skin". It reminds me a little TOO much of that one russian bootleg felix the cat game joel from vinesauce played a LONG time ago as it has a VERY similar description as that game's game over screen; and considering the fact that it was apparently the most shocking image to the OP, i wouldn't be surprised that THAT was the image they were talking about since it's pretty horrifying to look at IMO

Saw the video in question, it isn't Felix. It's not even skinned or anything, but it is a scrungy looking cat that's lost a lot of its hair- looks like it's been through a lot :(. There's only four "freaky" cats in the video (two with photoshopped weird human faces and that spider-eyed cat) and that poor tabby was right at the tail end of them, so OP had probably just misremembered it

I have some input for the "lost cat jumpscare video" as described as there being pikachu cat, there was a man talking about how cute pikachu cat was with cutesy background music playing until it switched to other images which where of photoshopped cats made to look scary and the last image being a kitten with multiple eyes and was a gray tabby. Then it switches back to cutesy music and then the outro. Its been about 10 years since I saw that video but its probably called Pikachu cat or something.

Maybe the anime ad wasn't an ad but an OVA or experimental Japanese animation. I actually saw a few which were transmitted in a Latin American channel, and I've never heard of them again. While I make no real effort of finding them, I hope eventually I get to find their origins, and maybe a subtitled version since many of those OVAs and experimental animations had none. However I did find my favorite. A Piece of Phantasmagoria. Fortunately I did remember the title so finding it again wasn't that hard.

I had a "tip of my tongue" book for years, what I remembered was some British queen, I thought it was Elizabeth I, who was like reflecting on her life or watching the present from heaven after having been sufficiently tortured in hell for some period of time. Could not for the life of me get an answer as to what it was. So I literally just found the book one time while browsing in a bookstore. Saw the spine, thought "hey this seems familiar", looked at the cover and thought "hey have I read this book before?" flipped through it and was like "HOLY SHIT THIS IS THAT BOOK I COULDN'T REMEMBER THE NAME OF THAT I'VE BEEN TRYING TO REMEMBER FOR YEARS." I had the wrong monarch and I had misremembered the premise slightly, but it was definitely the same book. I can't remember the name of it just now, but it was by E.L. Koningsburg I think. So anyone who has their own TOMT out there, don't give up - you never know when by complete coincidence you'll just find what you were looking for and figure out part of your issue this whole time was that you weren't fully remembering the premise accurately.

I'm a little shocked MAD wasn't brought up as a suggestion for that first entry. It's rather infamous for having really grotesque skits and often used claymotion. It also happened to air pretty late at night so that's a good sign. The "green creature cartoon" makes me think of _R.I.P.,_ or _Repose en Paix,_ a series of horror-themed stop-motion interstitials that originally aired on TCM in 2006, and later on Cartoon Network in 2010. The shorts were about this creepy Frankenstein's monster-esque slasher villain who constantly breaks into this man's house to try and kill him, but things always go south in darkly humorous ways. They were directed by Bruno Collet, who was behind the Oscar-nominated short _Memorable._ I'm 100% sure this isn't what the Reddit post was about (the villain character wasn't green, nor did it look like what OP drew), but due to its obscurity on top of being an interstitial series that aired between programs and not something that would show up on any schedule, it does kinda make for a repressed memory/fever dream/Mandela effect type of thing that I'm sure has messed with at the minds of at least a few kids that watched Cartoon Network in the late 2000's.

I read a lot of that little green man thread when it came out. It was eerie how familiar it was yet how I, nor anyone else could place their finger on it. That effect might just be its resemblance to Invader Zim and Salad Fingers and such. If the original poster was remembering something else entirely, I wouldn't be too surprised if I never even saw it before and was just bamboozled by its similarity to other dark cartoons. I don't even remember the part where they said it was claymation stop motion, I was always imagining a straight cartoon like the aforementioned ones.

When I was a kid I had this book I got from my library. It was multiple short stories, and one of the stories was about a military veteran spending new years with his daughter and husband (I think), and they're a little late getting to his house. He hears fireworks and starts freaking out, and starts shooting people out the window of his apartment *naked* and his daughter walks and just sees him standing there, and then HE DIES (again, I think, I'm not sure, the details are fuzzy because its been maybe 5-6 years)

i frequent tomt a lot so i knew about all of these, and i'm so excited to find out the last one might be solved! as a kid i loved jim benton's stuff, i would've gone wild if i got that book 😂 i miss that "weird little girls" trend from the 2000s ngl i really hope someone figures out the other posts someday, all of them sound fascinating and definitely got me curious

I saw a different cat jumpscare type video as a kid, this kinda reminded me of it. It was definitely a lot more gruesome because it was just a cat video which cut to a raccoon that was eating a cat. I remember it being horrifying but it was from before I could read so I could be getting something wrong.

The suitcase one might be a psa for mental health, or overworking in Japan just dubbed over by a text to speech. Reminds me of those youtube channels that post movie clips with text to speech dubbed over innacurately. This one is farfetched, but it might be some sort of guro fetish Death Note animation or something, again dubbed over badly. Or just some Death Note animation for the first part and then an evil farming game type dream?

I remember the cat video in question, It was maybe 2003-2004 on albinoblacksheep. There was also another similar video that was a car commercial that went from happy customers with their new cars to gruesome photos of car crash victims posed in similar positions with eerie music playing which at the end lead to a jumpscare.

The "cat pulled out of its skin" could be from the movie Uninvited! Never seen it myself, but saw a tumblr post about it once. It's from 1987, and has a cat that has a smaller, hairless cat crawl out of its' mouth to kill people. Hopefully this helps! Will try to find the tomt post to comment there as well. It definitely fits the description.

I remember seeing a trailer for Bump In The Night way back in the day on a cheap VHS tape. Certainly a show that warrants more attention than it got, given how much effort claymation requires. I'm not sure how anyone could forget the title in the theme song, what with how catchy it was

the suitcase one couldve been some obscure youtube video or something fanmade OP watched and misremembered as an advertisement. it couldve also been some sort of PSA or something because those can get pretty weird. also depends on what exactly that commercial was advertising.
