I’d take the SS3 any day. The beam pattern of the Diode dynamics is much more functional as a ditch light. The morimoto leaves much to be desired, and probably only appears brighter because it is more focused.

The combo beam on the morimoto is a really nice mix of width and throw. The beam pattern performs really well. It's very similar to the Diode driving beam.

for a Ditch light, SS3 got way wider coverage. i love the xhb, but they're bright because they're kinda focused almost like spot lights. perhaps if the morimoto were Flood pattern instead?

Diode was always known to have the widest beam out of any offroad light on the market, so it's no surprise there that their combo beam is wider than the morimoto. The Diode dynamics driving beam would be the best lense to compare the morimoto combo beam to.

The actual comparison should be the Combo Banger vs the Driving SS3. Morimotos Combo is actually a driving pattern meant to supplement high beams. This coincides with the SS3 driving pattern. Additionally, the Stage Series combos are a blend of driving and flood. Then price point wise, SS3 pros are at the same bracket as NCS. HXB and Maxs are at the same bracket. I really, really wish Morimoto would push combos more similar to Diode, as that pattern is way better for ditch lights.

@maxrfinch correct! Although someone who goes based off optic names, I figure combo vs combo. This is combo from morimoto and this is combo from Diode. But you're totally right, the driving pattern is the closest to Morimoto combo beam. Personally I prefer the combo beam from Morimoto for ditch lights. I think it's the perfect blend of width and throw.

Wouldn't a more relevant comparison be the SS3 Max? Since the 4banger HXBs are $515 and SS3 Max is $500? The SS3 pro is almost half the price at $300 compared to the $515 HXB.
@TboneSRT

Yes, but as you can see, the Pro actually stands up well against the HXB. For someone wanting to save 200 bucks. The pro is a great option. If I get more requests, I'd definitely get a pair of Max's to compare outputs to the HXBs

I went with the 4 bangers as I had the DD and the lights were just brighter and better to me.

Awesome! Both are great options. The morimotos are hard to beat with that output and warranty though!

The Morimoto wide beam (SAE fog) is more comparable to D.D. ss3 combo, and are much brighter overall. That said, both companies make superb lights. I have the ss3 yellow pros on my 2010 Z71, and the 4bangers on my 2021 Z71. Both are fantastic.
@TboneSRT
@TboneSRT 4 күн бұрын
@ISeeYouToo-Ido yes! The 4Banger combo is more comparable to the DD driving beam. At the time I didn't have a driving beam lense. Love both lights! I wish I had a ss3 Max at the time but the pros put out some great light for the price, and the backlighting is a nice bonus

What lens do you have on the ss3 I’m debating on ss5 pro and big banger.

This was the combo lense, but the driving lense would be more comparable to the 4banger combo lense

Is the SS3 using the same lens pattern as the 4Banger? If not, then you won't be comparing apples to apples.
@TboneSRT
@TboneSRT Жыл бұрын
Yes they're both combo beam but as you can tell, morimoto combo beam and DD combo beam are not the same. I'll need to swap the combo beam in the 4banger for the wide lense which will be more comparable I think
@teligon
@teligon Жыл бұрын
@@TboneSRT I thought on some level they were because I could see the DD pod was casting light well above the low beam, but mostly wide and low based on the amount of light dispersed in the foreground. That's what made me question the lens pattern. Thanks for your quick response.
@TboneSRT
@TboneSRT Жыл бұрын
@teligon yeah, I couldn't believe how different each combo beam was! I know for a fact DD has always had more width than any other pod but I didn't know much about the 4banger. This video was the first time I turned the 4banger on so I didn't know what to expect myself 😁. Had I known before hand, I would have probably swapped the lense to something more comparable but most people shop by beam pattern, so I wanted to show what that beam pattern looks like. Thanks for tuning in!

@@TboneSRT Thanks for this video, I've been on the fence on which to go with for awhile now. I'm 90% I will be happy with DD. However, that being said... as @teligon mentioned on different lense patterns. There is actually a "driving" lense from DD, from their website it would seem that the light pattern will shoot further down the road. On another note, were both these lights adjusted properly (in close ranch to a wall or something) so that they're both aiming equally before your test? TIA
@TboneSRT
@TboneSRT Жыл бұрын
@andrewchan9925 yes for sure! DD is fantastic especially the price point. What I never mentioned though in this video (I mentioned it in my other video that I made solely on the morimotos) is that morimoto comes with a lifetime warranty. Although they're more expensive, they will last you a lifetime! And yes I had them both aimed at a wall before I took the video. I totally forgot to add that picture when I made the video showing the different beam patterns against the wall because the morimoto has a hot spot in the center which contributes to them shooting further where the DD is even light straight across with no hot spot.

Dude what headlights are you using? They’re incredibly bright and full and I’m interested in checking them out if you have a link. (Wondering if they’re too high tho might be blinding other drivers?)

They are the factory Ram LED headlights. They actually perform pretty good for a factory setup. The SS3s in the fog pattern really help on width. That may be what you're seeing as well

Most definitely! Although, Morimoto does carry a lifetime warranty. I suppose it's something to think about when shopping. Does the price justify the warranty.
