so true! We can't help but be influenced (unless we stop shopping and turn off all connection to the world) by trends, but that's why I so passionately recommend considering them and deciding whether they are for you and your home. If we followed them all we'd be exhausted and we'd have to change everything every 3 minutes! That sense of place and belonging is EVERYTHING!

I'm on a hill in a suburban development. We built our home. External east facing wall - the space behind my cook top faces the roof of my neighbor's home - we wanted the light, the morning sun, but not the view. My backsplash incorporates a 10' x 4' glass block section combined with a neutral glass and stone mix of tiles. Hard to explain but I love it. Been in my home 35 years - kept it even in a full remodel - kept the glass block section just changed the original kitchen backsplash which was 80s tumbled tile. In my application, it just works. My kitchen also has a huge skylight so it's very bright!

Just about every trend you mentioned can be tasteful ,curated and eclectic if in the right circumstance and design style. It’s when it’s repetitive or overdone throughout the home when it becomes too much.

I have had an all glass shower and a glass block shower. I will take the glass block any day. It is so much easier to keep clean. The all glass is a maintenance nightmare. I refuse to clean after every shower to prevent spotting on the glass.

I like the glass block walls. My eyes are sensitive to light and it's a good way to have windows without having windows. The diffused light given is calm to my eyes. I'm not a fan of the busy rainbow kitchens but I do like the rounded edges that are becoming popular. I always thought the quiet luxury looked cold and heartless. The vibe was always "substance abuse rehab for rich and famous"...low vibrational. However, I do like the Balletcore meets quiet luxury. I already decorate with neutrals and a pop of girly color. I think the silver they were talking about would be too cool tone glam for common areas of the house. I think tarnished brass or bronze tones would be warmer and more inviting. I like the idea of mural walls, but I too, think I will get tired of looking at them. I would probably opt for a giant tapestry instead. While I am here, I am going to say how much I loathe the open concept homes with no front porches. I can always tell when I'm driving through an HOA community. I dislike those too.

Great clip, I agree with you about the Kitschy and murals, I hate them! but glass blocks?? I love them, when they are installed properly and in some situations. We have a hall with a skylight that runs the whole length of the room, but the room to the left of it has no window, the solution was to run glass blocks from floor to ceiling on 1/4 of that wall, it looks amazing design wise and it solves the lack of light in that bedroom that borders it. Love the Zellig tiles, but as you said, everyone has done it and it has lost its attraction, same with farmhouse-so over it :-(. I love a mix of Persian/Middle Eastern luxury mixed with modern. I live in the Middle East and luxury here has a whole different meaning. I would love to see you do a clip on that, as you lived abroad for many years. 🙂

Yes! It goes without saying that you should absolutely decorate your home in a way that makes you happy. We can all agree. But in videos and articles about trends, the purpose is to let the audience know what these trends are. This has actually been helpful for me, because sometimes what I like will trend, so it's easier to find things!

Well, for starters, Let me confirm That I'm old enough to remember the first round of them, so its not about being younger thinking something "retro" is cool. Secondly, I am an indoor person, through and through.....as a child I once was PUNISHED to go outside(not why I'm now an indoor person).....so I generally don't care about views out of my windows. Thirdly, I don't generally like curtains or drapes, especially when they extend past the window and I see negative space above and below the window and the rod. Lastly, I just think they are quite contemporary(intentionally chose not to call them "modern" there), I like the transparency they bring, and the newer shapes update them, and, as you pointed out, they are a bit Brutalist, which is a style I personally enjoy. No need to "reconsider" if you don't like them, and your clients are removing them, that's y'alls perogative.....they aren't for everyone, and as "trends" go, they may soon be going out again due to oversaturation

Quiet luxury is my favorite. Everyone is commenting on the glass block. I am a NO for the glass block! I do have a frameless glass shower door on two sides of my shower. I love the look because it makes my smaller size bathroom feel larger. I simply use a squeegee after every shower. Remember, every one of us has a different eye for what design appeals to us in our homes. Please respect the individualized tastes we love and use. That's what makes each of us unique in our own way! I think glass brick feels different in England. So many homes there are row houses that don't get a lot of light. The glass is a way to bring in light without letting neighbors peep (or having to pay high energy costs to heat the house 10 months a year.) But for my own house, no. I'm with you.

Curved furniture. Absolutely NOT, especially islands that are curved on the ends! This one actually shows up a lot in tandem with my other huge hate (that is in every shelter mag currently). And what is that, you may ask? Kitchens, bathrooms, and bars or dining room furniture with reeding or ridging! Aside from being a hugely identifiable trend that will instantly date your home or renovation (much like 80s era curtains) reeded wood items are unbelievably difficult to keep clean, especially in kitchens (where steam, grease, and dust combine). It's hard enough to clean a lot of kitchen cabinets. These ones are *never* going to be clean, because they have so many nooks and crannies. I won't fault someone if they want to do reeded glass in a couple of upper cabinets, to somewhat obscure the contents. I just suggest putting the flat side facing out and the textured side on the inside of the cabinet. Same look. Easier to maintain. Easy to switch out when you tire of the look.

Glass block - depends on the use Burl wood - depends Kitschens - only if you’re a clown 🤡 or crazy artist 👩‍🎨 Bold Wall murals - I paint my own on large boards or canvases. If I get tired of it, it’s changeable. I did a tree on my mom’s dining room wall, because it’s permanent, I didn’t make it busy. It’s very simple and elegant. I did it on a ragged gold wall, but it’s my mom’s style, so she loves it! Quiet lux - 😍 New Pretty - Okay, cool. Moroccan Tile - depends on the use Gold - depends on who and how, like my mom Textured walls - depends Curvy cabinets - yes please Social seating - only when I have guests Portable lamps - want! A lot of these things depends on the people and the application. Something like this is made to appeal to a broad audience. We would like what you like. That’s why we’re here. Other’s would feel the complete opposite! They would feel Quiet Lux is too boring!

I think your home should reflect you and your personality and what makes you walk in and it feels like home. If you see a trend you really like then do it, if it’s something you will still love in the future but don’t base your home on what is a trend or what everyone is doing or what others like. I don’t personally like black walls or a lot of black in a home even though I like natural neutral colors a hint is fine, the new trend is green no thanks, I also don’t like wallpaper so could care less how popular it is. Don’t go by what others hate or don’t like you live there it’s your home and what ever makes you comfortable and you like then that should be your decision. If you see a aspect in someone else home yes I didn’t think about that good choice 👍 like to do that but I really don’t like anyone telling others what they should or shouldn’t do no matter how nice your trying to be it’s really not your place telling others what you they should or shouldn’t have. If it’s based on think I get tired or just not my taste fine, but in my opinion would you want someone coming in your home and saying all that black take it out! No you wouldn’t or take out your fireplace as you stated you can’t stand or you just wouldn’t have a kitchen and make coffee in your bedroom the person living there loves their kitchen and frankly you don’t have to cook or fix your coffee in there kitchen. My goodness people! Clicked out!

Valentina, I truly enjoy watching you and Jack. Actually, I like most of your taste in furnishings. I am a mixture of transitional, contemporary and modern. In my observation ABSOLUTELY NOT CRITICISM , your perspective seems only to be black or white and that to me limits your ability to give a client anything else. There is life after black and white and it is called color be it quiet or bold. You share your opinion as if it were law. I see many incredible and well known designers who are able to see and decorate beyond their own styles. Perhaps you might watch Rebecca Roberson OR Ashley Childers, or Debbi Stolle. I adore your personality and style and the joy you bring to all but please temper your opinions to you not as if they are law in decorating. Rebecca Robeson just went through 18 design styles and what they consisted of with videos of each, Jeri

Hmmm... I'm not a trend follower but I do buy and decorate according to what makes me happy. I've had such wildly different styles in my 63 years of living so I've lived in significantly different environments. I've loved them all at that point in time. Where i differ from you is that my favorite color is red... and for a very functional and yes, "kitchie" kitchen table, i have a vintage 1950's red formica dining table that expands with leaves. I've had many dining tables. This is fun and very useful. And it goes with my red sofas in the open family room. Would I have ever envisioned this? No, not in a million years. But that old table makes me smile.

We moved from NY to Jacksonville last year. Looked at tons of gorgeous homes and EACH one of them had stucco walls, if that’s the correct word for textured walls. Never saw it up north. Thought perhaps it had something to do with the climate….anyway my home and every home we saw had that and even though I am not familiar with it, the homes are nevertheless beautiful! Not every home has to have flat walls.

Yes to: quiet luxury (best of this list), solid zellige, lime wash, white lamps, portable lamps if I needed them. Ehh, hell no to: burled wood, glass bricks, gold walls, sculptural pendants, kitsch (the worst offender in this batch and I don’t understand the aesthetic hey but if someone loves it, go for it), Maybe: wall mural but I’d have to love it to bits and would have to be calming and fairly neutral, new pretty (not really into boucle), curves but not on everything and not much in cabinetry, I’m a recluse so not into a lot of seating. 😊

No to everything except quiet luxury. I feel quiet luxury isn't a trend on its own per se, but more a sub trend within styles. My go-to style is Australian coastal, that can be as beachy kitch or subtle coastal as you like. I feel quiet luxury is what takes it to a more subtle but sophisticated level. As for curves, mostly no but I would consider it for something like an kitchen island edge - but only if it's a subtle curve.

Can you do a video on how to mix different wood colors in your home? For example, if you have hardwood flooring and a hardwood coffee table, can you mix another wood in with that in the same room or would it be too much?

I hate glass blocks! The only thing I disagreed with was the tile. I think the Moroccan tiles are timeless if done well. The rest was spot on for me.

I’ve always loved glass blocks. Kitsch is something with character. I didn’t like all the kitchens, but there was one that was cool, at 8:32 with the nice windows. I could totally dig it!

Can Brooklinen fitted sheets stay in place on Purple mattress with platform to goes up and down at head and feet? I haven’t found a sheet set that doesn’t slip off when I raised my head of bed. Any suggestions?

I love your quirky vids that you and your hubby do - Sending greetings from Australia! ❤ Where are you located? It looks very pretty. Totally agree with you about the glass bricks! They are everywhere in the suburb I live in including our neighbours house... and we look onto them 😂 Don Johnson 80's haha!

I loved glass blocks then and now . They are very retro .. They do let light thru without being able to see thru, Idk what glass blocks you are talking about..Valentina has a VERY set and limited style , it’s beautiful BUT LIMITED. Anything outside of her own style she doesn’t appreciate or see any esthetic in , and she and husband verbally insult anything outside of their narrow style. All the insults really aren’t necessary. It reminds me of when the rockers hated on disco . My thoughts were why hate on disco , why limit yourself or put urself in a box . Appreciate other styles for what they are , u don’t have to love other styles but u don’t have to hate on them . Just talk about what you love without the sarcasm towards what u don’t . There are many styles I wouldn’t want in my home but can still appreciate in someone else’s.

So the green that is so hot rn will change to inky dark blue and dark ruby pinks in a couple of years? According to pantone colours of 2027 or something. Is that right?

In the Southwest, we commonly have textured walls. There are a few different styles, and the quality depends on the skill of your plasterer, but it goes with the use of Vigas, Wood Beams, and Stucco that is so common in and on our homes. Would it work on a home in Atlanta? Probably not. I lived in Augusta for a spell and didn't see textured walls in the more colonial/tradtitional homes there. As much as I love the textured walls in my desert home, I would never use them in a home that didn't have the overall aesthetic of the Southwest. I love your channel even though my home cries out for more color than you'd likely be comfortable with. However, I am redoing the primary bedroom and en suite to reflect a moody neutral palette. I'm doing a mini-update to the kitchen that will welcome some open shelving and neutral shades as well. Of course, all colors are more saturated out here - we've got so much natural light that it would look dull otherwise. My ceilings vary between 9' and 12' with most ceilings sloping in their respective rooms. It's a delightful house that's been updated and built onto over time, creating a truly unique home. I'm using dusty blue to create unity and flow through the various spaces and even in the bedrooms and bathrooms. In mid-tones all the way to nearly black, blue just works in this house, with my existing art collection, Turkish rugs, and furniture pieces.

lol my whole home is in quet luxury style EXEPT the play room that is next to the kitchen (until kids are very small i have toddler) and there is no door kitchen/to playroom and we have a geomertic scepehes in different colors on the wall of the play room so its giving KITCHY haha. But we are in a transition in our kitchen all white modern until we can afford to update it with more of our style so it kind of works with the playroom. I hate knobs so we added 2 scphere knobs in green on the 2 hidden frides so its connecting a bit to the playroom, i kind of like it but not exactly my style. My son loves it tho and his playroom and i love the placement of playroom too i can cook and have guests and still watch my wild toddler!
