Thinking about it even at this price, but what I loved the most was that the Thing was *not* carplay. It was always/only music. When I needed nav, I mounted up my phone, and they were 2 different screens and devices, never any conflicts or context switching.

so you can use this with an older car without bluetooth? so the iphone can bluetooth to the carpod, which can plug into car stereo system with aux cord?

Technically yes you can, but wont be the exact same experience, the display uses Android Auto or Apple carplay, so it's going to restrict your phone to that mode and also drain your phones battery a little more.

Yes, it uses whatever audio input/output you are using.
