Dittisham for Sailors. A Trip Up the River Dart in Our Moody 33S

Dittisham is one of the most attractive villages in South Devon. Join us as we drop anchor at the Anchor Stone below Dittisham. Above us on the hill is Greenway House, the summer home of Agatha Christie, high above the river Dart. The view from our drone shows the full splendour of the Greenway House and Gardens and surrounding English countryside.
Spring Tidal drop makes us nervous when our depth falls to less than half a meter under our keel.
On our return journey we almost lose the rudder of our Hydrovane steering.

It is a stunning place. You can see a boat house in some of the shots. This was here boat house and spar on the edge of the river. This whole area seems to be removed from time and her house is now owned by the National Trust.

Dittisham and the Dart, what a lovely place and nice to see your video. Anchoring at the Anchorstone is a bit of a challenge. It shelves very steeply and can feel tiny as the tide goes out. You made the right choice to pick up and move esp if you are fin keel

Hello I really loved this episode of yours, you are in my neck of the woods so to speak. It would be great to meet. I find your story telling so impelling, complete with the immediate sounds of bird songs, water splashing gently along your Topsides and your easy enjoyment of your surroundings. Just a few interesing technicalities make each episode perfect. Thank you Sea Pidgeon. I am at home right now but you justvtransported me to one of my favourite places, Dittisham or as locals say Ditsum. looks like you have a drone to and you control it expertly, I loved the bird song above Greenway a house and Gardens my wife and I visit as we are National Trust members. My cruising ground based in Torquay is occasionally up to Lyme Regis but mostly westwards taking in the Dart, Start Bay, Start Point, Prawl point Salcombe, Newton Ferres, Plymouth and the Tamar upbto Calstock, Cawsands, Fowey, The Dodman, Falmouth and the Carick Roads, the Truro river, Mount's Bay, Newlyn znd..... once to the Isles of Scilly. I am 74 and sail solo in my 1983 Sadler 26 Serena. I learnt to sail in Dover when I was 17. I have been a Professional Photographer and so I appreciate your filming, creative videos and your voice. Hi Kevin: good to hear from you. I am sure we will meet up at some time on the water. We are out and bailout a lot over the summer. We have our ASI on with the name Sea Pigeon broadcasting. So if you pick us up then give me a call on VHF16. We have a beer in the fridge for you. We are members of the Starcross Fishing and Cruising Club based in Starcross. This is a great club very laid back and not to regimental about the hierarchy associated with some sailing clubs. I have to say we have not yet done the Tamar. Fair winds to you and your crew.

Only need to be careful there in an easterly wind, it does shelve off quickly! Couple weeks ago a few boats got caught out at low tide, only a slight heel 🤣🤣 but all was OK 👍

I have gone past this river in my tender but never been up the creek. We draw 1.6 m. I just looked on Navionics charts and think i will avoid this but looks stunning.
