I was in doubts , and not sure what to order. BOSS RC 1, or RC 5 or that DITTO +. I need a simple looper with some storage space. As I also own a Digitech Stereo with Drum Tracks, there is no need to have another one. Just a smaller one with storage possibilities. I have the old version of this pedal, what I did is place this pedal after volume pedal, and before delay and reverb. So that way it won’t go off with delay, and actually make sound like a actual guitar part. And this way make the delay and reverb sound natural and stereo!

Best review on the Ditto+ out there. I just ordered mine after watching a few reviews and deciding it has the right features for me, but your in-depth demo really made EVERY feature clear. i don't play out... this is just for personal practice so obviously it more than meets my needs. Excellent demo, thank you very much. I was going to get the ditto looper but I think the plus has more features that I would use. I just play at home so hopefully the plus isn’t overkill. I had a Boss RC-5 but it was definitely overkill. And I didn’t care for that buffer at the end of my chain so I sold it. I don’t need drums and all that, I just want a simple looper for practice. The ditto plus is true bypass so I think it will wok better at the end of my chain. Thanks again

Great video Aaron !! I have the original Ditto looper. I use it just to jam at home to practice leads. I still have trouble getting the timing right. It takes a lot of patience. Which I have little of. I admire your fortitude.

Thanks Ken! Using a looper is all about timing. The great thing with this Ditto+ is that you can import some metronome clicks and beats into it and use them to practice timing before you start to practice looping. I find that it helps a lot to do this.

Thanks for the review and the good tips, Aaron. I bought a Ditto Plus when they first came out about a year ago and updated the firmware when a new version was released in order to fix a bug that caused sound to drop out at the end of a loop. I’m happy with all the Ditto Plus’s features except extended loop mode, where I never manage to stop recording Loop 2 consistently when I want to. As you correctly point out in your review, the timing of your press on the footswitch has to be spot-on to the millisecond. I found having my song structures ruined if I didn’t time my press exactly right was very irritating. Lots of practice didn’t help. I stopped using the Ditto Plus completely for that reason and use Boss loopers where I have absolutely no problem doing the thing that I find very problematic on the Ditto Plus. My guess is that the Boss loopers are more forgiving because they have some memory buffering that the Ditto Plus doesn’t have. Would you use extended mode during a live gig? I would never risk doing that.

Hey. Remember that in extended mode the first recording is executed as you would expect but for the overdub you should hit the switch during the final loop but before it ends as I explain in the video. It’s just a different mentality and even most two button loopers would not have this ability to have what is essentially a two track looper. DO NOT try to press the switch on the beat as it will most likely mess up, TC should have explained this method more clearly in their documentation. I would use this looper live but would obviously prefer to use the RC-500 since it has two dedicated tracks and three footswitches etc. BUT for the size and price the Ditto+ cannot be beat.

I tried doing what you suggest and do in the video, i.e. hitting the footswitch before the end of the loop when recording a longer loop 2 over a short loop 1, but I had problems getting that to work consistently. To me there seemed to be a very small window during which you can press the footswitch. But it’s clear from your video and comments that you have got this issue under control. The compact size of the Ditto Plus, the color display, the sound quality and the low price are all big advantages, but because I didn’t get on with the extended loop mode I had to find the space on my pedalboard for an RC-500 and buy one of them. Keep the great videos coming! :o)

@@eekamoose Thank you! The RC-500 is on another level but do make sure your Ditto+ is running the latest firmware. The window of time that you have to press the switch is dictated by the length of your first loop. If that loop is 4 bars then you can press the switch st any point during the repeat where you are recording your overdub. Give it a try!

one way to stop the loop without any stress is to add a mute button switcher and put the ditto in the loop.. so you'll have a stop/mute button and then stop/erase on the ditto! hope I was clear. 😊

That’s a good way to do it. I haven’t tried that on this looper. It’s not really a problem it’s just a drawback of only having one button.

My foot hides the led on the original Ditto, so I can't see the status. This seems better but the record indicator seems to be in the same position, do you have any problems, in the heat of the moment?

Hi Christian. I found that if you keep you foot back then you can still see what the screen is doing. There is a chance that you could cover the screen if you have big feet (like me!) but the Ditto+ will definitely be easier to use than the original version.

I understand why TCE released this looper in the tiny form factor and it’s probably fine for most people. However, I hate double tapping so if TCE released a two button model of this pedal or added a port to add a footswitch to press STOP I would buy it tomorrow. I know that there are other models and brands with two or more buttons they are overkill for my needs.

BTW, the TC Electronic Quick Guide has no details about importing backing tracks into the pedal even though it's promoted as a compelling feature by them and lots of reviewers. It was certainly a big factor in my purchasing decision, but what would seem like a simple 'transfer file from PC to pedal via USB' just doesn't work. Definitely need more info because getting backing tracks onto the pedal that actually play will encourage me to practice more and get value from the pedal. Thanks!

Practicing with a drum beat or metronome is a great idea. It’s also helpful to have a dedicated stop button. You should check out the Boss RC-500.

It is a great pedal. I have owned the Ditto, the Ditto Stereo, and now I have had the Ditto + for a few month. I used it a lot and do enjoy it very much. I have downloaded from KZbin or Spotify and organised my tracks by style (rock, blues, jazz, bossa...) and kept space for my own working tracks. I am on Mac and things cannot be more easy as I see the folders in the finder, so delte, add, modify is easy. One thing I miss and I would have loved is the possibility to slow down or speed up the music. That would have been a great feature for people who consider the DItto + as a traning tool. Maybe a future microcode update (hey TC can you do it ?). I do recommend this pedal to all my guitar friends. One cool thing is to have a lot of available tracks. Of course it is not possible to have 99 full tracks of 5 minutes of music each. But is it usefull ? To have many folders (files or songs or tracks whatever we name this) is the following at least for me. Say I want to work on a song. Take Blue Bossa an easy one. I want to work on rytm and melody (to make it perfect) and the to improvise over the entire song. I want to make my own rythm using my guitar. So folder one will contain first 4 measures C-7 / % /F-7 / %. second folder will contain measure 5 to 8 D-7b5 / G7b9 / C-7 / % third folder will contain measure 1 to 8 so ... C-7 / % /F-7 / % / D-7b5 / G7b9 / C-7 / % ... This alows me to work on a real song on sequences (motif ?) sorry I'm French not sure of the wording. I'm sure you get the idea. In short this does not take space, it helps develop your skills specially for improvisation.

I am pretty sure that you are simply importing a loop, meaning that when you record it will record as an overdub.

I still think it's a bit expensive for what it does. My old classic ditto died..so I just want a songwriting tool, and it's great to record ideas...but for the money U just don't know. Is there a better alternative out there? It's not for live work.. (although I would put it on my board for soundcheck and rec ideas on the fly)

There are cheaper versions on Amazon but the TC is worth the extra money IMO. Look for a used one.

Hi, what about odd time signature at its drum machine? Has it at least 3/4? I cant decide ditto+ between nux loop core. What I already know that ditto+ has better sound quality( the drum quality is also just amazing good, much better then nux has) but nux loop core has 3/4 ts and generally more options. And my other worry is reading many complains that a detailed userguide is not available (even on the official website) just like about how to import drum patterns Thanks

If you NEED 3/4 I would get the NUX but if not then I would get the TC.

You have to watch with these pedals and TC Electronic pedals in general. The foot switches often fail and TC can’t fix them. I had an original Ditto and the Ditto x2 and both stopped functioning properly after a few months. I couldn’t trust these in a live setting. It’s a pretty well known issue with TC.

I have a hall of fame and flashback that work great but after my ditto issues, I just can’t trust them live. When mine stopped working, I did contact TC but never received a reply. I let it go but it still bugs me.

I believe that any pedal can have issues if it’s being used live regularly. It’s more about how the company works to resolve any issues that do come up. It’s a shame that they didn’t get back to you.

Sounds like Ditto+ is not ready for prime time release. Poor to none documentation for users, poor customer service for problem resolution, issues with switch reliability. Why would I purchase when alternatives exist, even with larger footprint? Will continue to review marketplace for alternative for documented, functional looper!

Has anyone experienced that a loop has no sound when transferred to a computer? I love this pedal, and made a few decent loops that a wanna save on my computer. I did this several times with no trouble, but have experienced that some loops has no sound on the computer. Really strange. Would make sense, if it didn't work for ant loops, but it's only some.

My Ditto+ is stuck in boot mode. Tried to update firmware, which failed on my macbook (It is an Old Mac Book, maybe thats the problem?), and now cannot use the pedal. Is there a way to resolve this or perform a hard reset? Holding combinations of buttons does not seem to reset the pedal. Nothing works, no suggestions via the internet super highway seem to work! Hi Aaron I’m still not allowed to busk yet here in Spain so practice ido . I have a couple of questions I hope you can help me with . I use a tc helicon play acoustic into a Roland street cube . Never havin any other pedals I’m debating the following either Beat buddy plus the Ditto + looper or Boss Rc 500 with fs7 pedal . Which would you say would work best one man busking and how on earth do I start connecting these gadgets in line in what order . Hope you can help before I spend my money 👍

Hi. I would get the RC-500 if you are going to use the Beat Buddy as they will sync together. I would also consider the TC VoiceLive 3 Extreme as it is an all in one pedal with a looper and backing track player.

It's a nice pedal...when it works. I just bought one and the second night I used it there were a few times when pressing the button to record simply didn't do anything. I tried tapping it several times and nothing seemed to work. Had to unplug and replug it - then it worked, but then had the exact same problem about an hour later. From tapping it repeatedly, it eventually started to record again. I can't keep something like this if it's not going to be completely reliable, especially not for $150. Anybody else run into this problem? I swear that there are other times when it doesn't do what I was expecting. Not sure a single pedal model is the best way to go.

Thanks for sharing. This hasn’t happened to me. Did you update it to the latest firmware? I would ask the store to switch it out. Any pedal can have issues, maybe you got a bad one. Let us know.

Less of a problem with record / play, but the thing that I don’t care for is that it’s really touchy as to whether it pauses or stops a loop. Both commands require tapping the button twice - but if you hold just a few seconds too long on the 2nd tap, it cancels out the loop. The two commands are just too similar and invite arbitrarily canceling a loop when all I want to do is temporarily pause it. This looper is surely compact, but while playing it’s really hard to also concentrate on that double-tap, especially since it has to be done just right. If you’re in 4/4 time, the two taps have to be done in exact rhythm - first tap on the last half of the last beat of the measure (“AND”) and then the 2nd tap on the exact first beat of the next measure - on “ONE) so as you approach the measure where you need to make a change - have to really count to yourself ONE TWO THREE FOUR AND ONE. Then, sometimes when it goes from pausing to stopping/ending a loop - a real loud sound comes out of the amp. I'm really thinking a 2-pedal unit would be better (?) Thoughts? Which would you suggest. I'm thinking of returning this one back to the store where I bought it. The 1-pedal operation is just a bit too dicey. It's ok if only doing record - play - overdub - play, etc. and then two taps and hold to stop (although sometimes that doesn't always work either), but when doing a song where I pause several times - it's just a bit too complicated while also worrying about reading the music.

Its nice but i just cant get used to 2 taps for stopping the loop, because i use some loops just for a part of songs.... Plus a very big minus of Ditto 1 and this one is, Hold and press for DELETE, and that 1 second of sound that you hear is annoying for audience when used live. Why is so hard to add STOP button and when hollding it - SILENT erasing of loop? Like on dittox2.... but in mini 2 button format. PITY its not for live performance, that 1 sec recorded loop spund when using live is so annoying for audience :(

Hi yeah I did mention this is the video. If I am performing I always use a looper with AT LEAST two footswitches. I have the Ditto+ on my electric board and it is perfect for practicing and recording musical ideas.

Hey. Do you mean importing drum loops onto the pedal? I haven’t actually tried it lately but I think on the Mac you just have to connect it via USB and copy the files across. I will try it, thanks for the suggestion.

@@aaronshortmusic I know that, Aaron... but I really think that I might enjoy just a simple looper to make some noise in my live streams and live performances in general. And the one thing that was lacking in the smaller units was the different lenghts in each loop... and they made it in this cute little pedal! Since I'm starting to build my pedalboard, it would be great to make it smaller. My plans are going into a looper pedal, Strymon Bluesky, Boss OC5, an OD pedal just for mess around (probably my TS808HW) and a compressor (maybe). All will work with the brain of everything: the Felix2. But now I only have the Looper (giant RC300) and the OC5. Working to get myself the Strymon Bluesky next month and thinking into go lighter with a smaller looper pedal as well. Thank you for the tips, my friend!

Aaron...a question about this. I just bought one but not sure it can do what I want it to. What I want to be able to do is record a loop (with or without multiple overdubs) and be able to turn it on and off as needed during the course of a song, i.e. let’s say I only want to use the loop several times during a refrain but not during verses, or the opposite. Once you press twice to stop,is there no way that you can simply get the loop to play again or will it always start recording once the button is hit again? If so, I'm not sure that this is the best product for me. I bought it cause it seems easy and I wanted the longer record time. Haven't tried it yet in the event that I need to return it to the store. Thanks for any help. I've heard videos where people record a loop (using a TC Helicon) but then seem able to turn it on and off as desired during the course of the song. Won't this one do that? So, I'm looking to: record, play, stop, play.....however, it appears that the basic functions only offer the capability to: record, play, stop, record. Is that correct? OR...is what I'm looking to do accomplished with the undo / redo function? Doesn't undo remove one overdub at a time? If so that could take holding the button down multiple times to stop the entire loop from playing. By that time, wouldn't it essentially do the same thing as clearing the entire loop? Most confusing.....

You should be fine. Once you record the loop and stop it pressing the footswitch will simply start the loop again. To overdub you would press the switch again while it is playing back.

It'd be nice if a bit more instruction came with this, especially since it has that extended looping feature. Never used a looper before so looking forward to it adding a different dimension to my playing.
