Lesbian or straight, Jones and Rundle placed love on the screen between them, their characters rang real.

I am from halifax and been visiting Shibden Hall for 50 years. I specifically remember in the early 1990’s seeing Helena Whitbread at Shibden for a talk and a small reenactment of a small part of Anne’s life which was attended by no more than 10-15 people. Today probably a football stadium wouldn’t be big enough to house such a gathering. It is there i bought my first book ‘I know my own heart’ i have literally read the pages off of it. I was always amazed by the diary’s and could relate it to her travels around halifax and wider a field. I could of never imagined it hitting the screens but so glad it has. Suranne playing the perfect part with Sophie. You can see that there is a love between these two actress’s. There both an absolute credit to the memory of Anne lister, Ann Walker and all who was concerned within there lives

As someone who's been with a person who had chronic mental and emotional challenges, I can absolutely relate who what she's saying here. It can be so hard and exhausting. Even with love and the best of intentions, it doesn't always work out. I appreciate that the show didn't shy away from this, and we can see Anne, who is very strong, have her doubts and falter. I'm so glad they were able to get together in the end, but I think season 2 will continue to show us those challenges in their relationship and likely won't just sweep Ann's mental state under the carpet. More kudos to everyone involved for portraying this complex relationship.

May I just say here that Surannes' timing on the show is just exquisite! Every face, every eyebrow lift, every line, every scene is just magical! And that deadpanning to the camera got me every time! And Sophie Rundles' performance is just the catalyst to spur Surannes' affections! She's just the sweetest, gentlest & loveliest character! Love the show & what incredible talent!

I loved this interview. Gentleman Jack gave me the push to start feeling like I don't need to care about what others think. I'm a lesbian and if she could get married and have a wife so long ago, I can too. 😁 There's no shame needed.

Some folk, especially women, have the ability to blur the line of friendship and romantic relationship. I used to have a lot of friendships when I was younger and they are the ones I look back on with fondness.

It's not just Women that are in love with Suranne's portrayal of Anne Lister (I feel it is important to emphasise that it is her PORTRAYAL of the person that is so endearing), or indeed the fine actress herself! I for one fancy this version of Anne myself, even though it is obvious I would never get anywhere with her!

The lip licking thing she does, she obviously can't help doing it cuz she does it in 'Scott and Bailey' too. I don't know what's happening to her voice though, she's got a Southern vein running through it when she's totally Northern?
@mightwenotbehappy4 жыл бұрын
Yeah shes from Oldham, she needs to stop with faux London accent
@715michala4 жыл бұрын
Her voice for Ann Lister is q southern - why ? She was born & bred in Yorkshire why not give her a broad northern accent? Mind you if you think about it - this may not have worked !! Both should have been portrayed with northern accents instead of faux southern tones.I don't think " ee up me duck" & " aye up" " I'm in fine fettle, me duck" would have worked artistically speaking.Sally Wainwright possibly thought it wouldn't work , but giving em posh educated voices may indicate middle class bias or suggests writers license to change ,
@ambyrhawkeshadowsinger6913 жыл бұрын
@@715michala She uses that accent instead of a Yorkshire one because Anne Lister changed her accent to better fit in with the wealthier class. She wanted to rise above her station.
@715michala3 жыл бұрын
@@ambyrhawkeshadowsinger691 oh I didn't know - did she put that in her diary?
@ambyrhawkeshadowsinger6913 жыл бұрын
@@715michala Yes, I believe it was. Sally Wainwright mentioned it in some interviews, but I also ran across it yesterday in one of the Audible books about Anne that's not associated with the show. So either Anne mentioned it, or Eliza Rayne (her first lover in boarding school) did in one of the letters that was found with Anne's journals. It was a mention about how Eliza had a Yorkshire accent, but Anne had schooled herself to sound more upper-crust.
