Put yourself in the shoes of a talented violinist. Will you play down? There is no loss of etiquette if the violist shows his/her talent. Better get rid of such ridiculous dogmatic ideas. If it is good music enjoy it. If you listen to T Rugmini you will notice that what a talented artist she is and she has almost always an edge over the vocalists. Great talents are not for hiding and I believe that none of the vocalists objected to it also.
