Diversity is Synonymous of Stability - Jean-Michel Cousteau

Dear Friends and Supporters,
I was so pleased recently to see a new mural on a building nearby my office. The mural has a painting of two hands entwined along with a quote from the late, great Nelson Mandela. It reads,
“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”
― Nelson Mandela, Long Walk to Freedom

I am touched so greatly by this beautiful, articulate message and its placement in my community. We can all be taught to love. We can all be inspired to be a better version of ourselves. By working together, we can accomplish more than if we are working against each other.
In the ocean and on land, from the smallest to the largest plants and animals, everything is connected. When there is greater diversity of species the system is stronger because there are more species to perform vital roles. When there is less diversity the system is weaker because the web of life can be more easily disrupted or broken.
As humans, we are the only species that has the privilege to decide not to disappear. Each of us can make a difference and we can decide to protect the ocean and our planet so that all of us and future generations can enjoy a healthy planet.
Diversity also makes us stronger too. By incorporating and celebrating different cultures, ethnicities, religions, genders and people of all ages, we can benefit from a wider range of thinking and solutions. Diversity is synonymous with stability.
I hope you will join me and my efforts to work with others to find solutions to our problems. I remind us not to point a finger, because when we do we have three fingers pointing back. Lets work together!
