Lmao i had a similar story. I told people around me that i was gonna be a vegetarian, then 3 days later, my housemate and i go jnto the pizza shop to order some pizza. They ask me what toppings I want, and i ordered the extreme meat pizza. Beef, ham, bacon,pepperoni, and salami. And my so my housemate said, didnt you just say that you were a vegetarian like 3 days ago? And everyone laughed

The "dont eat sweet" korean parents thing is SO RELEVANT to my parents. I didnt have icecream till like, 1st grade and didn't let me buy American cookies/snacks till I was old enough to get it myself.

@@TheReMorseCode I definitely have a habit of binge eating sweets/snacks that comes from mental thought that I won't be able to have it again. I'm grateful that I stayed away from it in my early childhood (like before 7 since I dont remember lol), but I think once I hit elementary school, I would appreciated it in modest consumption. If I have kids, I think I'll let my kids have it in moderation but not like, boxes of chips or tubs of icecream in the freezer like a lot of my pan-Asian friends had.

My son was diagnosed with ADHD and dyspraxia at age 7. He is on meds. It is thought that the brain processes energy differently and uses and runs out of sugar as fuel. Hence ‘sipping’ cola or nibbling something sweet regularly to stop them ‘tuning out’. I didn’t know it was the same for bipolar disorder. Has Tablo got bipolar?

This was me but with salt. My mom cooks like an organic chef. Bland. So, when I ate in my friend's house for the first time, I had that realization that this food that coincidentally I disliked tasted soooo good. It was salted. I knew it was way salty for me, but having eaten bland food that I didn't even realize was bland until outside of immediate fam pointed it out. It was heaven. And I felt guilty because I thought someone else cooks better than my mom. How could I think that someone is better than my mom? And so, I never told my mom that event. lol

I had never even heard of sugar helping with MDD, but it made sense. I used to carry sugar packets with me when i was in xray school and i was really stressed during though times. And like you, when i was real yound my mom made a big deal about eatting sugar, so i just didnt cause it wasnt worth the consequences. But people would watch me just down sugar packets and they would shake their heads. LOL. Validation.

I'd say it maybe has to do with dopamine. When sugar is consumed the reward pathways of the brain are activated. And so dopamine is released. Depressed people also have low motivation or "wanting". Higher release of dopamine is linked to more "wanting"

@@LC-in2ft Yeah I agree. But after a sugar high you can get a sugar drop which can have the opposite effect (happens to me). It can also create an addiction similar to those who use drugs, food, self harm etc to deal with these situations. Im not a psychologist or doctor but its just my viewpoint.

Sugar for manic depression? My late husband was bi polar (the modern term) and he was never told to eat sugar. My husband was vegetarian for 20 years but the minute his first wife and he split he went on a meat binge. He still liked vegetarian food but meat was definitely back on the menu. Tablo is so relatable. I'd love to meet him because I'm sure that I could have a fun, normal conversation with him and not be overawed.
