These guys perfectly personify the “crazy Russian/Ukrainian” KZbin culture over there! Even the translation is entertaining (“Holly Molly”)! FYI, while there are areas of concentrated radiation around Chernobyl, parts are safe enough that you can actually take guided tours. I can’t speak for the levels where they are “diving”! Also, that suit he is wearing will not keep him warm! It’s certainly not a dry suit . And don’t divers use hot water pumps for ice diving? Lmao! It’s all fascinating!

Main issue is not touching stuff or staying near radioactive dust : it's BREATHING it. Once you breath radioactive dust, it stays inside you. And it keeps beeing radioactive. Years after this, the radioactivity is still slowly destroying them from the inside. That's why the n°1 safety equipment you would need to go there is a good mask (FFP3).

Absolutely true. It’s also not radioactive *everywhere*. There might be Hotspots for weirds reasons that you don’t know at first (hole in roof where it drips down, accumulation along certain winds etc.). And you don’t perceive radiation; without a dosimeter this is all just guesswork what they are doing. They could be fine, or they could be standing on top of Dusty McSievert… Radiation is a complex thing and 99%+ of the population don’t understand a thing about it, sadly. Including many commenters. It’s either complete fear mongering or not understanding what really isn’t harmless.

@@TomJakobW The problem to me though, with what they are doing, is breathing in alpha emitters like polonium. uranium, americium and so forth. These are not going to be picked up by any kind of testing equipment over a distance of a few centimetres, but we both know what happens if they get these materials inside their bodies. They might not ingest enough to develop ARS, but they'll sure as hell have a massively elevated risk of cancer development.

Reactors 5 and 6 were partially constructed but never completed. Based on the exterior of that building, it appears to be a building that was paused mid-construction exactly one mile southeast of reactor for near an incomplete cooling tower. Not sure how extensive the tunnel system is there and I haven't watched part 2, but I doubt those buildings are even linked underground. May be wrong though.

They used to allow tours to Pripyat, but they always took a Geiger counter to monitor the radiation And everyone had to leave after 20 minutes due to the length of exposure to the radiation being very dangerous. So I can’t imagine the levels of radiation in that building and in the air and the amount of time that they spent there practically at Ground Zero was good for their health! And then diving into contaminated water, under ice, with crappy likely Soviet era and extremely basic equipment. If they don’t drown to death, fall into a concrete void crossing over rotten wooden bridges or get impaired on some jagged piece of metal, then they can look forward to Radiation poisoning and burns and at some point most likely an early and horribly painful death!!

"Radioactive ice diving is a new certification" Don't worry, I'm sure as soon as PADI sees this they will be right on it.

Water makes the radiation different. It absorbs it or scatters it in a way that makes it safe to be around higher amounts of radiation without getting radiation sickness. It’s why the fish didn’t really get genetic mutations near Chernobyl, they’ve remained unchanged for the most part.

There are tours you can take at Chernobyl, it’s safe. The only areas that aren’t are unit 4, that melted down, now housed in a metal shell and places like the basement of the hospital where the clothes first responders had worn were discarded there. These guys are more in danger of unstable places in unit 5 and from mold and tetanus.

Any dust in the Pripyat area has the potential to be radioactive.. And that would be the worst way to get irradiated.. When the professionals enter the area they do so in protective clothing supplied on site, and disposed of on site..

They sell high pressure air pumps that could be used to fill the tanks. Mine does 4500psi of pressure.

I could genuinely see this being a comedy troupe, and that place isn't even in Chernobyl. If that's the case, these dudes are LEGENDARY trolls.

Well, there is a thing... They clearly are comedy troupe. Also, kreosan team are known to sometimes produce fake and exaggregated videos for bait. But on the other hand, they ARE that unhinged, and also kinda know what they are doing. So they might or might not be in actual CNPP here. Sus and his team are, on the other hand, 100% legit. He is well known urban explorer, and one of the informal leaders of the Ukrainian urban explorer's club.
