when we are learning we dont come up with this logics by our own but when we reach a point where we have mastered it then we create nd start understanding the logics nd approaches onour own...just like a new math formula being develop by math experts nd we learn it through various sources

BECAUSE 7n/8 and n-n/8 are two diffrent things in java, as the data type you are using is int so 0 and 7/8 is same thing for it. thats why you are getting wrong ans, you can do it using double but then you cant use bit manipulation to solve it, you have to go for the actual mathematical approach for it.
