Some of the best financial content on KZbin. I’m a high school history teacher and you do a pretty good job of explaining complex ideas. Your portfolio that you just showed, does a great job of showing low beta dividend growers in compounders. I would add Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. Visa MasterCard because they’re the biggest two payment processors, but I would also add AMEX because the quality of their customer is huge. Recession would be more likely to hit them less. I would also put Pepsi in Coca-Cola spot. My logic to it is that when you’re in recession or fearing one, you’re going to most likely eat at home more. Just about every American home has at least 5 to 7 Pepsi products in it at any time. Coca-Cola is much more likely to be consumed at a restaurant, stadium… Etc.

Best recession proof is to buy pretty much exclusively ETFs . Past results don't indicate future results and the market is hyper volatile especially now. For me I use ETFs as a safety net and normal stocks as true growth. As my best stocks outperform my etfs

Total returns are obviously incredibly important. But in the context of this video subject, security of dividend payments and low volatility is much more important than total returns, as seeking high total returns will expose you to more risk.

I feel like financial advisors will always say to do like a 70-30 split with say the s&p and dividend paying stocks and then once you get closer to retirement that percentage shifts so it’s more dividend base. Is there a reason why you don’t do this I feel like I only see you buying dividend stocks hence the KZbin channel name and content lol. Doesn't the blended PE of WM concern you? Yes the company will always have work but buying now means buying into what is practically a utility at this point that is also a blended PE of over 30. The earnings growth (projected) going forward is a nice 13% but PE 30 is pretty rich. Closer to 20 would be better.

Algorithms and previous history is great, but I think a lot of people buy just for those two reasons. I like to put more human thought into growth and safety. If something just doesn't seem practical for the long term, I can't get behind it. Disney and tobacco companies look good on metrics, but core business morals aren't there.

My only concern is that most of these dividend stocks won't ever reach Inflation beating percentages till way in the future. Not really worth it in my mind. If a company doesn't pay 3-7% then I'm not buying it.
@Dividendology2 ай бұрын
Inflation beating dividend stocks is more about dividend growth being above inflation rather than the yield. But everyones 'wants and needs' are different.
@errettfitchett24632 ай бұрын
Yeah, it's all about the CAGR of the dividend, not the dividend itself. For example, AT&T has a 7% dividend yield, but it never increases its yield, and the company's stock performance is lacking, so every year, the dividends pay less compared to inflation. While a company like Microsoft has a .7% dividend yeild, but the yield is growing really fast, and the company's stock price is further raising the dividend yield of what you put in. Theoretically, if you invested in Microsoft early enough the dividend yield on cost would be higher than AT&Ts 7% and that is what this channel is trying to accomplish when it buys low dividends yield stocks that have good fundamentals.
@Dividendology2 ай бұрын
Well said!
@xaldath42652 ай бұрын
Really, it's about balancing them, when talking about *spending* the dividends. Your returns over time will likely mirror the combination of the yield and the cagr. Similar to if you over sell your shares with a market portfolio, if you have more yield than growth and don't reinvest, you'll lag the market and if you have too little yield, even with good growth, you'll be "underfunded" in retirement. Finding the balance that fits your own timeline and treating the yields appropriately is important.
@ZeIose2 ай бұрын
@@xaldath4265very important notes you’ve made here. My only addition is when you are spending the dividends, your priority probably isn’t dividend growth. So as you said, it’s important to know what your goals are as to whether this strategy is for you.
