Hi Adrian, your videos are mostly talking about buying stock, but what about selling? For example, when would you recommend we sell stocks included in a TFSA (when they are at their highest peak, or perhaps we should gradually transfer those stocks to safer investments such as bonds or other?). In general, it's hard to find information out there on selling strategies (lots of buying strategies, but at some point, you want to get that cash right?). I would also add, about the DIVIDENDS EXPLAINED video: wouldn't you agree that there is a higher risk into using a DRIP instead of cashing out your dividends? By using a DRIP, you are assuming the company will never go away, but also putting a lot of money into it. Just a thought. Thanks so much for all the great videos! You have a talent for breaking down complex stuff into simple, awesome job!

Also, with REITS, having a high payout ratio (>80%) is fairly common and acceptable!
@CanadianTShirt4 жыл бұрын
You got that right! In fact in the US, REITs are required to payout more than 90% of their income to investors to be eligible for tax exemptions! Canada isn't quite so strict but even so, a lot of Canadian REITs have very high payout ratios

It's important to point out that in order to avoid the foreign withholding tax on US dividends you must buy US-listed US-only (not including international) stocks/ETFs and hold them in an RSP account. Dividends from Canadian listed ETFs holding US stocks still get taxed even in RSP.

Hello , I have a question, which is the best idea to invest in dividends, in the Celi or in the REER? Which one has the most advantage when it comes to obtaining profits, thank you very much

Just curious why you suggest to first invest in your TFSA before the RRSP? If you still have RRSP room would it make sense to invest there to take advantage of the tax break?
@CanadianTShirt3 жыл бұрын
Ideally you want to max out BOTH your TFSA and RRSP but for most people, especially beginners the TFSA is the easier one to start with since it's more flexible and far less complicated. Make sure you check out my RRSP Explained videos (both of them): kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHywf5qkgqeGmqc I got over how the RRSP tax deduction works and why you shouldn't necessarily claim your RRSP deductions right away, especially if you are in a smaller tax bracket. Check it out! =)

Thank you another excellent video!!! Could you please make a video about taxability in a margin account?
@CanadianTShirt4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Rosa! You bet I will! I'll be making a video where I go over how every form of investment is taxed and which types of investments should go into which type of account: TFSA vs RRSP vs Margin. Stay tuned for that! =)

You are seriously the best! I learn so much from your channel and I’m excited to invest! I’m getting started a bit later (25 years old) but I’m hoping to retire by 40. I wish they taught us this stuff in school. It’s crazy how financially illiterate people my age are

Thank you Jessica! I really appreciate that and I'm happy that my videos have been helpful! I agree, there's no excuse why this isn't taught in high school but I LOVE your plan to retire early!!! 😁

@@CanadianTShirt Thanks for replying! I’ve become a huge fan. Question: I’m looking into investing in a growth stock - should I invest it in my tfsa since It isn’t a dividend so I won’t have the 15% withholding tax? Thanks!!

Thanks for another great teaching moment, Adrian. It was worth the wait. I liked your easy explanation to calculate dividend yield at any moment, i.e. annual dividend/share price. Great take aways from each of your videos!

Great video,very well explained. Are the dividends taxed, in other words let's say we get dividends for the investment,do we need to pay tax for the dividends.Please comment.
@CanadianTShirt3 жыл бұрын
In a non-registered account, ANY form of income is taxed so that includes dividends, DRIPs and capital gains. You will have to pay taxes on this when you file your taxes. But in a tax-sheltered account like the TFSA or RRSP, dividends are tax free! =)

@@CanadianTShirt Thanks! So in that case we need to first open TFSA and should that account be linked to Questrade account.
