If you insert a loaded magazine into a weapon, cock the charging mechanism, then continue to work the charging mechanism, unfired rounds would eject each time until the magazine was empty.

This scene is acted perfectly towards the end by the SS guy. Germans joined the SS by free will and not only because they were fascist ideologes, but also because they were oppurtunists who where constantly on a power trip. They were psychopaths who wanted to feel powerful above all else. You can see the distress the actor shows when he doesn't have the ability to rule over life or death of other humans anymore. He can't comprehend it and falls into desparation.
