I also read Divine Rivals after Powerless and had many of the same thoughts towards DR as you. I actually switched to audiobook after a while because I was so bored with all the historical/world-building stuff. I can definitely see now why there was so much of that stuff in book one, though, because I think (and hope!) that book two will be more focused on the romance. If it’s not, I’ll probably listen on audiobook for that one too 😂

Some suggestions you may enjoy (I gave them all five stars, and they are clean): Keeper of Enchanted Rooms and The Hanging City, both by Charlie N. Holmberg (two of my favorite romance fantasies), Into the Heartless Wood by Joanna Ruth Meyer (YA romance fantasy and a Beauty and the Beast retelling and Little Mermaid retelling), Miss Newbury’s List by Megan Walker and A Lady’s Guide to Fortune-Hunting by Sophie Irwin (two of my favorite Regency romances).

I didn’t care for this one. 😢 Hey, I did just read Miss Newbury’s List - I think the audiobook is free if you have Audible. It’s romance heavy ( at least for me 😂), but clean! I really enjoyed it. You might like it? It’s set in Regency/Victorian times, though?

My Dear Friend maybe read something by Frank Peretti Visitation for example. The subject of the book serious but some scenes made me laugh 😀 and there is romance maybe not much but for this author it's still a record 😄😄.

Unfortunately, some authors claim to be a "Christian writer" simply to appeal to a larger audience. It oftentimes is a marketing strategy💰. Other times some authors are just what you may call "liberal Christians" as there are "conservative Christians" as well.
