The light skinned brother was my best friend in high school Brooklyn New York. Shelton was his name. I haven’t seen him since I left Brooklyn about 30 years ago. I always wondered how he’s doing or if he’s still into music like I am. I hope Shelton is doing okay.

My childhood around 1984, growing up in the Bronx. These vids would always come on TV back in the day. But listen to the message through the lyrics. Rappers always had something meaningful to say about real life through their poetry. These days, you can't say the same for these "artists".

Thank u!!!🙂 U really said that "eloquently". That's what I meant when I said that regarding a Whodini song and I guess...well I know it didn't come across the way u did and it started a big beef. Others knew what I was trying to say and I only went back and forth like twice trying to get em to understand and just squashed it.😊 But Yes u r exactly right. Well said. Thank u😍

I remember listening to this as a kid on KISS FM out in New York and would always get so excited when they played the whole thing instead of cutting it short because it's a long song with so many verses! They played it like every hour (I remember it being in 1983) but sometimes they'd fade the song out early.

Great song that I remember hearing on WKTU at the factory in Dover, NJ back in '84. I loved the soul, rap, dance, freestyle, pop and rock music back then and many times the lyrics were socially conscious. This will always be a stand out tune for that time along with Nuance "Love Ride", Debbie Deb "When I Hear Music" and Rock Master Scott "Request Line" to name a few. ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES, BUT IN THAT ERA OF THE MID 80S.JUST SO.MANY GREAT JAMS WERE BREAKING OUT, OR BETTER YET THE WHOLE ERA OF THE 80S BROUGHT US GREAT FLAVOR TO THE MUSIC WORLD,POOPING BREAKDANCING,AND POPLOCKING INCLUDED UNTIL 1988 NEW CHANGED THE GAME,BUT THE MUSIC INDUSTRY BACK IN THE 80S WAS MORE OPEN FOR TALENT....

The early 80's were the best era for NYC. Lots of break-dancing, crime, drugs, peep-shows and urban decay. 👍

This was the flow/cadence of rap back then....even 2 Live Crew had a similiar flow...so did other groups. Its a copycat world....if its successful and make money others imitate it....What People Do For Money

Was able to still buy the 12" version (still sealed) a few years ago. Ordered from Uk... from the U.S. Was amazed I could still get this. Awesome track and remember it so much from the electro/hip hop days. I wish they would rerelease the electro albums on cd. I ended up buying all the cd's I could that had all the tracks from the electro albums. Even managed to get 'I'm the Pac Man' and the instrumental version too :()
