Diana the musical was definitely fun in its badness, but it's a great way to get lost for 2 hours. The cast is doing THE MOST. 10/10.

As I said on Twitter, Diana feels like one of those movies you watch when you're drunk or high or (in my case) drinking cold medicine. I decided to watch it when I was very sick and it was very entertaining. It's very camp for sure and I think it's easier to turn your brain off when watching it live, like what Howard Ho said on his Twitter.

Honestly, that 'Serves me right for marrying a scorpio' cracks me up every time. I don't know what it is about this musical, but I love it too. I used to pretend I mostly was in it for the costume changes, because I used to volunteer as a stage manager, so I can appreciate. But there's just something deliciously campy and fun about Diana: The Musical.

I'm a British, 17-year-old, hardcore DiFANa - to the point where the show follows me on Twitter - and this is hands down the best analysis I've seen on why I think this show works. It's just a joyful, joyful show and despite its flaws - of which there are technically many - has brought me so much happiness by "letting my brain switch off" for a few hours (15+ times). Could it be better? Yes. Do I want it to exist any other way? No. It's perfect for what it is and needs to be and frankly, I'm very very grateful for that. Thanks for such a great video! :)

The way I see it, Diana has something for every mood. Do you want to have a fun time? There's moments for that. Do you want to be genuinely moved? There's moments for that. Do you want spectacle and amazing costumes? Moments for that. Do you want a critique of existing power structures? Moments for that. Do you want something that you can just laugh at? Lots of moments for that. I love this show.

I think everyone who watches diana will have their own favorite wtf lyric amongst the many wtf lyrics. Mine is "darling im holding our son so let me say jolly well done" so much to unpack. Why are you tell her, she's standing right in front of you? Jolly well done? What? Sometimes I have to pause the show for a moment and just ponder that fking lyric

This was great! I loved your plot breakdown and having the gamut of opinions was really fun. Netflix isn't one of my always streaming services so I was very deliberate in what Netflix films I watched when I had it last month for Stranger Things. But after seeing everyone's reactions to Diana and the subsequent very fast Broadway closure, I knew it had to be one. Of the opinions featured, I'd say my reaction was closest to Sideways's. Watching Diana was . . an experience. Not one I care to repeat but I didn't outright hate it. It was just messy. What's also interesting for me is that I watched Spencer in June and had very mixed thoughts on it, mostly because it doesn't give the audience a crumb of context- not even the year the events are supposed to be happening. I think it makes for an interesting contrast with Diana the Musical. One spends two hours on a single weekend, one spends two hours on 17 YEARS (yes, there are musicals that can handle large spans of time deftly; Diana is not one of them). Or maybe my conclusion should be that it turns out I don't really care about the royal family that much. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hi, so happy to see a video from you. I never would've watch this on Netflix if you hadn't done this. To me it's a musical written for Rupaul's Drag Race with good actors.

My favorite part about THE RAGE is that he has this fit and then instead of storming off at the end he just walks over to the corner of the stage and... stands there. And since there's no applause in the proshot it feels so awkward

My personal opinion is that because this is based off of real-life people, it tends to get judged harshly if the story is changed even the slightest (sometimes it's also interpret wrongly). But if you only look at it from a "fun little show" perspective, and treat the characters as only characters, it's a pretty good one. I love the styles of the songs they have. It's the kind of songs I used to hear growing up. XD

This reminds me of my reaction to "Absolute Beginners," a British movie musical from the 1980s, based on a 1950s novel. I've only seen it once, but my attitude kept swinging from "This is lousy" to "This is good" every few minutes. Maybe this happens when an American looks at certain British musicals? (Have you ever seen "Absolute Beginners"?)

Please allow me to throw my hat in here. I, like you, have seen Diana more thank a dozen times. At least large chunks of it. And it is BAD. Disrespectful and BAD. People either like it because its had terrible reviews and word of mouth, or they are unable to associate ANY bad things with Diana herself, or their perceived empathy for the idea of Diana and her plight. The exploitation of her life in the guise of campy commentary is what cuts most deeply. As far as the progressive happiness with subsequent viewings its simply the anticipation and knowing what youre in for. The first viewing is tough because the mind recoils, overwhelmed. I too experienced a kind of surrealism. Even now I find a little bit of the surreal feeling, though never the same magnitude.

Hot take, I personally loved Diana the Musical: I felt like it did for Princess Diana what Hamilton and Six does for Alexander and Eliza Hamilton and the Six Queen of Henry the 8th. Allows her story to be told In a respectful way from her perspective: most documentries who talk about her mainly tell the story from Charles and The Royal Familes side. Diana the Musical gives the story from her side of the story and does a great job of it, I don't get why it's hated the show is beautiful.

Hillary Clinton and Diana were both shorter haired blonde women in their prime in the 1990s. So Hillary hair / Diana hair just aren't all that different they are adjacent styles. I don't appreciate some random straight guy saying "Hillary Clinton hair" like its some clever read when she looked pretty damn good in the '90s.
