I know you don't have a need to go in the tanks / voids that often, but would it make sense to replace / repaired the ladders with new wire cable so if you ever need to get in there you know it's there?
@FredVanAllenRealtor3 жыл бұрын
I would suspect the list of things to fix/upgrade on the ship are voluminous.
@BattleshipUSSIowaLosAngeles3 жыл бұрын
You and Fred are both correct. The list of things to repair is pretty much endless, but yes, it would be great to repair this ladder. For now, the safety gear we use is solid and sturdy, and we don't need to be on the ladder too much since we discovered that the frames were meant to be climbed. (And yes, that is exactly as fun as it looks.)

Two questions from this video. If the navy were to reactivate the ship how would they combat the rust in these tanks to stop contamination of fuel. Second question, when underway and the ship ballasted with seawater how did the combat flash rusting from the salt water when eventually refuelling?

The IOWA was completely de-fueled and de-watered during the decommissioning process. However, we have nearly 800 tons of fresh water ballast aboard the ship in various tanks for the purpose of maintaining a certain trim. We provide cathodic protection for those tanks in addition to the hull protection which surrounds teh vessel. Chief Engineer, Battleship IOWA.

Have you ever discussed in detail the tragedy of the explosion and loss of lives aboard the Iowa? From everything I have read the Navy still believes is was sabotaged by one person.

I think you are reading out dated material. Apologies were clearly made by the Navy to the family of the man that was originally and erroneously blamed for the accident.

It will always be a controversial and painful subject - families and shipmates of the 47 are still alive, so we refrain from any sort of public speculation about what happened. So where's the pick holes or inlet holes for the fuel and also when it's full of sea water, how does the system get rid of the sea water and fuel fix, contamination etc, before getting to the engines, also where the clean water tanks, drinking water so to speak? After all there's around 1,500 to 2,700 men on board the ship at any one time, plus all the food etc, its like a nuclear submarine, they can stay underwater for ever if it was remotely controlled but its not for food, then every month or so it needs to be resupplied with food? So destroy the supply ships and the submarines will stop ,even if they ration the food, it might stretch the underwater ops for around 2 months?⚓⚓⚓⚓🙌🙌🦘🦘✌✌👍👍👌👌😎😎😀😀
