I have to say as a diving instructor you need to understand the basics of water pressure. Diving on the lock side were the level of water is at highest is dangerous as the water pressure if it leaks to the lower side can cause a diver to be pulled against the lock gates. In extreme cases if the pressure is high enough could hold the diver against the gate trapping them. In really extreme cases it could pull the diver through and gaps in the gates. Its a very basic principle I learned in 50 years of diving,I thought you were getting it right when you had the paddles lifted and one lock gate open this would have been a lot safer. Also your safety line should be more secure under your BCD so heaven forbid you had a problem your safety cover could have pulled you out. Stay safe and good diving.
@Inspiration202211 күн бұрын
@@BSAC122 yes, I'm aware of the pressure difference and assessment of the situation was made the day before. The water loss was in the very centre of the lock between the two gates and even though it looks a lot of loss water going through, there was actually a minimum amount of loss. So it was agreed that as long as the paddles weren't opened, there wasn't a great risk of me being pinned to the gates. Also, the centre of the gates were avoided. Tying any rope to a diver i consider as being a risk as this has its own issues that's why I chose to hold the loop rather than having it attached to myself where it could have caused me issues. I felt that getting in and out of the water was a high priority weighing up all of the above.

The lock pound you were diving in should have been equalised with the lower level at the gate you are diving on. Top gate would have been fine with these levels. This prevents diver from being pinned onto the gate due to higher pressure going out through bottom gate leak. It's called diving in Delta-P. Look it up on here, there are some thought provoking videos. Whilst on scuba this is extremely dangerous. No comms to surface on a working dive. The claim on screen that you are a qualified scuba instructor is clearly not credentials enough to make safe decisions of how to effect this repair. The justification of wanting the water high to make in/out easier is far outweighed by the delta-P danger of being trapped doing it the way you did.
