I haven't been diving on the Black sea for a long time. This year, I filled this gap. The dive site is not far from the Balaklava Bay.
An ancient and very interesting place in the Crimea. Strategically important at all times and can be said to be a landmark for the residents of Sevastopol. By the way, now Balaklava is an independent municipality, not a district of Sevastopol. Time will tell how positively this will affect the development of Balaklava and the quality of tourists ' rest. And today-a dive to the bottom of the Black sea in the area of Balaklava Bay. Let's see the underwater world of the Black sea. And after the dive, we will go to the ancient fortress of Balaklava-Chambalo. Which was built in the 12th century. This is not the oldest building in the area of Sevastopol, but for other interesting places, see the next issues.
By the way, Balaclava is mentioned in Homer's poem "Odyssey". The first Greek name of Balaklava is Syumbolon Limen, which means "Bay of omen".
The next name that occurs in history is the name by which we now know the city, Balaklava. The name Balaklava has two translations from Tatar - "Fish nest" and "fish weather".
