They had staged some bottles for their ascent deco near the anchor line, they got lost and free ascended. The decision they made, fully aware, was to die on the surface rather then to drown at depth. Every diver should read the book about their particular dive.

"Low on air" suggests they did not have time to do the "Decompression stops" which are required to allow time for the compressed nitrogen to egress out of the tissues. Not doing the stops causes nitrogen bubbles in the tissues causing great pain and can easily be fatal. Commonly called the "Bends".

Fun fact: that condition is called “the bends” because the pain is so excruciating, that divers literally get “fold over” and bend theur bodues like a sort of coping method to hopefully make the pain less. There’re a few videos out there that show divers bending and folding in half, from ascending to the surface to quickly.

Here’s more information on this. The father and son duo had made the decision to sit their Deco tanks on the wreck to reduce their profile to allow entry into the sub. However, they did not tie or clip off the tanks to anything and when they exited the wreck after the father rescued the son, they realized the current had swept away their deco tanks leading to the low air emergency. There’s a couple lessons to be learned here: 1: don’t enter shipwrecks unless they were modified prior to sinking with the intention of diver penetration 2: if you choose to enter a wreck and must remove your deco tanks ALWAYS secure them. Do not leave them just sitting there

This was an unknown wreck. The government didn't even know about it. It was a secret diving excursion for a little over 2yrs

I'm in the Merchant Marine and it never fails to amaze me after we lose some of us and they sink to the bottom in peace it's over they're done they've been dead for years and they can't be left alone. I forgot the name of it but one rack is in 30 deep water about 120 ft and it killed 15 people. Down through the years 150 divers have died bothering my friends that were Merchant Marines like I was.

Diving can be a safe activity if you utilize good judgment. Unfortunately many highly experienced divers take risks that turn out to be unreasonable, and deadly. There is nothing on the bottom of the ocean that's worth someones life.

I.e. she looks like a young drew Barrymore Looking at a picture of the son, you could easily assume it was the father, AT A YOUNGER AGE, so yeah, I'd say that qualifies as "looking alike".

Diving is DANGEROUS. Diving into submerged wrecks is LETHAL. Only the most experienced divers who are experts in dangerous cave diving, and rescue are equipped mentally and physically for this activity.

Ive been diving TableRockLakeSWMo since the 1970s. There's many dangers there too. There are houseboat wrecks, caves, ancient trees loaded with fish hooks, brush bramble, snakes, ect. You don-t have to be at sea for danger.

​@kylegrimm8808 In normal diving that works, but the most unexpected things happen in (especially older) wrecks and caves. You can get stuck, depri could fall on you, you could get stuck and while trying to free yourself get buried by depri, you can get lost, tangled up, cut yourself badly on metal or glass. One wrong turn is the difference between making it out or staying there. There are so many stories on KZbin about (cave/wreck) diving accidents, and often, the victims are very expirenced and competent divers (often with a military or police background).

I know the flight engineer who was on the Dauphin Helo US COAST GUARD chopper that flew him to the hospital. I also taught him to spearfish scuba diving he use to go diving with me at night sticking Flounder around the Liberty ships 20 miles out of Dauphin Island AL. I miss spearfishing and scuba diving in the Gulf

A lot of nazi subs had lethal cargo on board when they were sunk. Mercury, early nuclear radiation parts, ammo and other poisons could be lethal to dive around. Best to let the ship and it’s dead mates rest in peace. Leave the dead subs alone.

There is only one recorded U-Boat out of approx. 70 wreaks that had a radioactive cargo. U-234 carried Uranium Oxide, being transported to Japan.

Dying underwater or in tight tunnels is my worst nightmare. I’ve heard the story of someone too big in an unexplored part of the cave get stuck, and how do you rescue someone who’s surrounded by hundreds of feet or solid rock! Same with cave diving. One tiny mistake can cause the loss of life. When I watch those videos I get claustrophobic. Although as a kid I used to crawl anywhere my head would fit. It was surreal the places I used to go to.

Chatterton almost lost his life on this sub. Only by NOT panicking was he able to free himself from the cable holding him and taking a last breath from his emergency air bottle and holding it, was he able to swim out and meet Richie to get a much need breath of air.

I worked on boats of different sorts on rivers and nobody really cares after they're dead if they were so poor that they had to ride these boats to their death and sinking a thousand feet of water and somebody else has to come there and die too because he's Rich enough to dive that deep these guys are just laying there on the bottom and it don't bother him a bit. I like to think they laugh at the new people that come there with all that money and leave all that money at home and never go back. I lost friends on boats

That's what got the Rouses, yes. Because the son got stuck they were down too long and didn't have air to stay down to decompress, or to find someone to give them air to do so. What made it worse was they used regular air instead of trimix with helium which would have greatly reduced the amount of nitrogen.

Sound like maybe had some big nuclear stuff on it that could’ve hurt the divers bc I’ve heard many shipwreck divers go find some cool stuff and or it was purposely put there for training or whatever and they do it successfully so that’s weird in my opinion that they’d die even with low air bc low air doesn’t mean no air so you use all the air you got to decompress and minimize what you need to ascend with lung techniques and watch that depth gauge to stop at the right levels and you use all the air while decompressing bc you don’t want to die once you hit the surface or at least hit the surface tell them bends get the chamber ready which is cool they have portable barometric chambers now
