USCG Cutter Duane (WPG33) shipwreck is 327 foot long and was intentionally sunk as an artificial reef on November 26, 1987. The wreck sits in 125 feet of water with a top depth of 60 feet at the Crow’s Nest. The majority of your dive will be done at 105 feet deep touring the main deck. As this wreck sits extremely near the Gulf Stream, it is prone to currents that can make it un-diveable. If you do get to dive it, you will fall in love with all the massive coral growth and schools of fish that now call it home. Some fish to expect to see, Great barracuda, Atlantic spadefish, yellow tail snapper, goliath grouper, nurse shark, reef shark, and even bull shark call this wreck their home. This dive is best done on enriched air Nitrox for the maximum bottom time!

The Duane was my husband’s home from 1966 until 1969. He served on her on North Atlantic Ocean Stations and in Vietnam.

Wow! That looked like an amazing dive! So much life and color, so crusted up with coral too. The ambient light down that deep is crazy, great video Max!

Yes, much more light in the tropics than BC! However, everything just looks blue. You really see some of the oranges/yellows when my lights are closer to the wreck! Thanks!

I first dove the Duane in January of ‘88 when it had been down maybe 8 weeks. The barracuda had already taken residence over the crows nest and there was a green moray in a toilet, but the rest of the wreck had only a light coat of algae on it. It’s amazing to see what 3+ decades has done.

So cool that you got to dive this wreck when it was first sunk! You should try to go dive it again to see the difference!

Looks like you caught it on a good day. The last time I was there, the current was ripping and the vis really sucked. Great video.

Hey. I remember this wreck. It's been a few years since I last visited. Is the Bibb still nearby. Same kind of ship, but lying on its side. I certified for Wreck Diving on these two wrecks.

I mean, us Americans do love our flag, but it is also a United States Coast Guard ship.

How long was your bottom time?

Only 20-30 min because we were diving regular air, not nitrox. NDL came up pretty quickly at 100ft.
