The last segment portion, the guys who planted a hundred coral that one day...Does the coral actually take hold and colonize? That's fantastic. I'm curious now about growth rate. The idea possibly of a boat, ship or even storm damaging a bed of coral that now you could actually repair it like replanting trees. I used to work for Texas Parks and Wildlife as a photographer decades ago. I remember looking down and photographing by airplane the scars of boat propellers of boats getting up on plane on the grass seabeds in Matagorda Bay and the Laguna Madre in Texas. You'd have these long curved scars where the boat props cut thru the shallow seagrass beds everywhere. Legislation and education about shallow boating techniques was introduced and it has been effective and of course, monitoring continues. Great story, cool to see the before and after. M Gonzalez, great questions. I'm not quite sure of the growth rate but yes a high percentage hold and thrive. The organization here on Moorea was started by a couple of 16 year olds who saw a serious problem and wanted to make a difference. They go into the schools and educate the little ones too. Great program! There is a problem here also with props and shallow spots. On my paddle the other day I saw many areas where coral was sliced off from props. That's great that monitoring is still takin places. It's a shame when people are not responsible boat owners. N

About the spiny seaweed, my Tahitian marine biologist guide told me that it's an invasive seaweed (for what your video shows: it's taking over reefs & once detached it "tarps" large swathes of areas/over corals blocking light, etc). So perhaps they're researching best ways to cull the seaweed? Or slow it's growth? & love the Coral Gardeners! I was hoping to plant corals on my trip back last year, but they had permanently suspended their in-person tours (understandably). Was bummed but many of my friends got to volunteer with them, so I'm hoping when I return in a few weeks, I might be able to finally join them 🧡🤙🏾

Oh right on, the crew over at Coral Gardeners are great! And yes, super invasive weed...and there are tons right now doing that exactly, blocking the light for the corals. :(
