Actually quite good commentary. One guy is more enthusiastic and the other calm and analytical
@ameliadowling43376 жыл бұрын
The calm one is the general commentator/ analyst. He is the one who knows all the rules and technicalities and has the job of explaining it all. The enthusiastic guy is the "color commentator". His job is to vary up the conversation and add some color to all the rules. This is how commentary is done on pretty much every other sport outside of the olympics. Wish there was more of this in olympic commentators

I think this is the loveliest thing I've read on KZbin all month. Your daughter is partly right - a lot of divers do get scared of heights when they first learn, and years later they have overcome it to the point of becoming champions!

Love the divers’ swimsuits. They look like synchronized swimmers, especially the suits the Chinese divers wore with the swirly patterns on them
To put it into context, the final total score for the Chinese pair would've got them a silver medal in the Women's 10m individual event even though they had the restricted difficulty dives at the start. That proves how amazing the Chinese divers are.

ive been watching many olympic diving videos and i cant figure out how the scoring works?
@MysticSaphira5 жыл бұрын
jessica d Don‘t know if you‘re still looking for the answer, but I‘m going to explain it anyway. As this is a synchro event, the scoring is slightly different than for the other diving events. The two highest and the two lowest execution scores are crossed out, as are the highest and the lowest for synchronization. The five remaining scores (2x execution, 3x synchro) are each multiplied by the difficulty score for the dive. This score is then multiplied by 0.6 which gives the final score for the dive.

There are actually lots of discrepancies and bias in the judges when scoring for synchronization. The fourth dive of synchros from the Chinese and the third dive from the Mexicans where slightly off and they were scored a 9.5. The scoring system needs consistency.

How do the divers not hit their heads on the platform when doing reverse or inward dives?
@chooseyourpoison51054 жыл бұрын
With a lot of practice. Having said that, sometimes they do hit their heads - the lifesavers at the side of the pool are there for good reason. USA diver Greg Louganis famously hit his head at the 1988 Olympics, and British diver Monique Gladding also hit her head at the World Cup, knocking her unconscious. There are videos of both incidents here on KZbin, if you type their names into the search box.

@tanishaparamba58064 жыл бұрын
Body shape will always dictate sports. If you look at shot putters, or other throwing events it always favors the bigger athletes. That being said greater height usually benefits the high jumpers. Marathon runners are usually incredibly thin and gymnasts are often pretty small. The thing is most sports require certain muscles to be developed and certain strengths for the various actions that need to be performed. It's more like a certain amount of natural talent is needed in addition to the incredible amount of hard work they need.

he keeps saying that the scores with lines through them dont count as the final score, but why are they there in the first place? and why do they put the line through them ?
@annaliang26417 жыл бұрын
It's because the audience can see their highest and lowest scores. As you can see, their highest and lowest scores are not counted, so it allows the competition to be fair. The line through the number just means that score is not counted, to answer your question. :) Hope this helped!
