Aussie pub music from the 70's and 80's - very fertile ground.... The sound of my youth. God, Chrissy was just sex personified.

Unfortunately I only had the pleasure of seeing them once in concert. I can't get enough of her. No one in my 77 years sounds like her. Her stage presence was mesmerizing. It's almost as if she was on the spectrum...the way she moved around the stage. Yet, in interviews she was brilliant, fun, alive, measured. I wish I could have met her.

Glorious glorious glorious, I was lucky enough to see the Divinyls 41 times in concert, I kept a record of everyone of they're concerts I went to. Elise was generally the stand out song at every gig, for me Sahara Rock was up there too as a show stopper. The anthem to my youth. Rest IN PEACE Chrissy

The fidelity to the recording is just stupendous. No ad-libs, no excursions, no waste; just a pure, laboratory grade performance of the same song we grew to love, as is, from the album. Far fewer bands than you'd want to count did this (The Cars were another), and The Divinyls were possibly the best and most assiduous. And how all the more precious these documents are now, now that Chrissy is gone. "Life can be shortened, life can be very sad // But those left are grateful, for all that they got to have."

My FAVOURITE DIVINYALS Song. I ADORE the EmotionChrissie's Voice... Such a great Lyricist and performer.... I feel this song so Hard
@susanglenn5498 Жыл бұрын
I heard this for the first time today. And the 10 th. I can't get enough of it. She channeled her music through every part of her body. Not concerned with being pretty, standing the right way... none of that self-centeredness. She had that quirkiness of Joe Cocker. It's the way those two just let it flow out of them like they were uncontrollably hemorrhaging emotion.. It's sexy as hell and I'm so jealous of anyone who feels that free. Too many singers are preoccupied with appearance. HOW did this planet no longer need her at 53? And for her to pretty much be dying from the age of 39. What an absolute waste, and if I'm EVER face to face with God, I'll be asking him WHY...how unbelievably cruel to strike down that amazing woman that gave us so much. Her ALL. I hope my comment drags you back to her after a two year absence. You'll just fall in love all over again. I need every CD for my car. My Bluetooth in my Kia doesn't. mesh with my android. I'm going to grab everything I can find of theirs on eBay.

At the beginning of this fascinating lyrical journey she is seen...with little fists clinched....warming up like a vaunted prizefighter entering the ring, ready to do some serious damage to an opponent. Chrissy promptly obliges by delivering the MOTHER of all haymakers!!!
@johnking65506 жыл бұрын
The intensity and single-minded determination within those beautiful eyes says it all...(1:12) At the very least, Chrissy was the indisputable queen of alternative rock, a trailblazer and an inspiration to other young women that the limits are only those set by one's self....as long as you have the talent and the courage to chew off a really big piece....interesting and wonderful things can happen. This was a very important gig in the fact that it was an NBC network program (Rock n Roll Tonight) across the nation and into Canada...audience size could have been considerable. I remember watching a few times (unfortunately not this one) and I believe it was on just after midnight friday or maybe sat. The importance was clearly reflected in their flawless, inspired performance from beginning to end.

I saw the Divinyls open for the Ramones at Pier 84 in 1981. I never forgot them especially this song cuz she rubbed the red lipstick all over her arms and was yelling at the audience. Great show!

@ Joey Roller........Chrissy fibbed about her age, she would now have been 60, she was 58 when she passed, not 53. Those of us Aussies (old enough) know exactly how old this lady was. Not that it matters, I adore Divinyls (early work, not so much the later commercial stuff) and saw them live many times. Chrissy was totally unique in her music and so very brave in battling such a dreadful illness (well, 2 illnesses). It comforts me to know she had Charley to love her and take good care of her in her final years. We have lost an amazing artist and the finest front woman any band could ever hope for. RIP Chrissy.
@KnEpH1319 жыл бұрын
+Linda Jones You are damn right that she was one of the finest front woman any band could hope for. I said several years ago on a post of one of the Boys in Town videos that Chrissy was right up there with Grace Slick, Stevie Nicks, Pat Benatar (early stuff) and Chrissie Hynde. Chrissy on stage presented the attitude of Slick, the sexuality and mysteriousness of Nicks and Hynde, and the sheer power of both Slick and Benatar. Not to mention the raw recklessness of Joplin. She deserves to be mentioned in that circle and in my opinion was one the top 5 female rockers of all time. She nor the band got the credit they deserved in the U.S.A. and this was a travesty. Rest in Peace Christina you were a true diamond in the rough.

Apparently my granny Elsie never lived in Darlinghurst or anywhere that close to the city. And thinking about it, she would've had her two daughters and their children (my mum being the eldest) who would have visited. Case of mistaken identity, but the parallels are uncanny. I really feel for the Elsie in this song, thanks to Chrissy's amazing ability to bring this sad but true story to life. What an absolute gift 🙏

I love this song. I love this band. They have some great music. Now, let me say more broadly I love the category of Aussie Pub Rock. We here down under, have produced some of the best rock bands the world has ever seen. We are somewhat unique. We have a sound. It started with The Easybeats, then went to AC/DC, The Angels, Rose Tattoo, The Divinyls, Midnight Oil, Cold Chisel, Spy vs Spy, Baby Animals etc. Not all Aus music, some of it is crap (riding the coattails and legacy of the bands I listed). Bands don’t have Balls anymore.
