To summarize, the divisibility rule for 8 is the last two numbers. Just check if the last two numbers are divisible by 8 if the hundreds digit is even, and if it's not then if the last two numbers +4 can be divided by 8. For example, 280 is divisible by 8 because 80 is. 752 is also divisible by 8 because 52 + 4 is.

This is a better rule because if you have to work out 3 digits / 8 and have to work it out on paper then you may as well work out the whole number on paper or a calculator. This rule allows calculation simply in the head. Excellent.

The other numbers ( 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,9) are easy to work out in your head but if you can't work out 622 / 8 in your head then you'll need a calculator or paper and if you resort to that then you may as well work out the whole number / 8. Not sure 8 has a simple shortcut like all the other numbers 1 - 9.

For 622 : 4 * 6 + 2 * 2 + 2 = 30 is not divisible by 8, therefore 622 is not divisible by 8

Also a number is a multiple of 8 if the 100s digit is even and the last 2 digits are a multiple of 8, or if the 100s digit is odd and the last 2 digits are the result of multiplying 4 by an odd number

It is actually simple to do it by head. If the hundred is odd, like 100 or 300, then add or subtract 4 to the last two digits. If that number is divisible by 8, the whole number is. ex. 376. Add 4 to 76 = 80. So it is divisible by 8. Other ex. 792 => 92 - 4= 88. So 792 is divisible by 8.

Divide an even number 3 times to get an odd number. Ex:56. 28,14,7. Divide 3 times since 8 is 2 cubed. If divide more than 3 times, the number is divisible by a higher power of 2.
