My parents who were almost going to get a divorce, were forced to stay united after intense efforts by the relatives. My mother was a teacher & could be financially independent, but her parents made her live with my father by showing his wealth, especially for society. Not only did this decision affect our parents, but also impacted us. We can't run as a family together. There won't be peace. Not willing to share much here.. Our parents used to say that they r staying together for us;otherwise, they would lead their own lives happily. We feel guilty bcoz we didn't ask for such sacrifice from them. All bcoz of the social pressure. This society won't allow people who sincerely love each other to unite by showing their caste, religion, etc but makes two people who really wants to separate apart to live together & ruin their entire life. Divorce is not a crime. Certain things need to be changed bcoz life is only once that too it is one-way road.

@Madan gowri, I would also add here if a couple come together for sharing love and caring for each other and not for any other reason like wanting physical, emotional or mental or financial support, then the marriage has possibility of success. if 2 people come together for some need or lack, then higher chances of failure as they are coming to take from each other, not give out of mutual love. It is best to marry only if 2 people are able to love each other with their imperfections, accept them as they are and love them as they are. If that is not possible, best not to marry in the first place itself. It is not bad to be single. Many are deciding to be happily single these days. its important not to take societal pressures or parents pressures and see what one wants and do that. Marriage is not meant for everyone. having kids is not meant for everyone.

Divorcing someone for silly reasons would not be good but if 2 individuals not being happy in relationship then it's good to be divorced sometimes if you stay in that relationship it becomes taruma for your life...those saying divorce will affect the children.children also be affected if they are not with good parenting parents at one point of time they would be affected by their parents....Divorce is better but it's not solution it can be a solution when they can't stay together

Remove alimony and maintenance from divorce. We could see who really want divorce. Divorce has become easy money making business for some women. It's men who are suffering because of those legal extortion but no one will speak about that cuz men is the victim. To get rich men has to work hard, but for women, just marry a rich man and divorce. Why are we not talking about gender neutral laws?? where is equality when men suffer?

vro, few months earlier, I saw a court judgement saying a husband who didn't even have job was asked to pay alimony to his wife. He had ill parents, but the judge said healthy adult can earn atleast 7k(don't know the correct number), and should pay atleast 2k alimony. Ithelaam ovara illaya. Men can also ask alimony, but rarely asks or gets. Sometimes law's unfair to women too; As times are changing, we should also adapt laws and make it fair for both parties.

Please do not encourage divorce at any cost. Marriages are meant to be a lifetime commitment. No family is 100/100 perfect. There's a lot of sacrifices made by both the partners throughout their lifetime. If each of them focuses on the wellbeing of their partner, the relationship will grow stronger and stronger over the years. By no means am I encouraging any kind of abuse in marriage. Take your own time before deciding to marry a person, get to know each other and see if the moral and spiritual values of both align. Love is a lot of hardwork. Our parents have gone through a lot of ups and downs but still they'd never ever give up on each other. It's difficult but totally worth it. We grow up thinking that it's the reality. Happy marriages are the ones where each person prioritises their partner's interest over their own and that's a lot of adjustment.
