Coy Cook was one of the best and most under rated tenors..... and he hailed from Fleahop, AL.

My dad is playing the piano on this. You only see a few snippets of him and he was not much older than 17 here. I miss him so, I watch this video and makes me smile every time.

Reminds me of when I was about 7 or 8 and used to sneak out my window and go to Mount Olive Baptist church to listen to the music. I may have been the only white face there, but I got blessed. To this day - I am 74 - music (especially this kind) moves my heart & soul.

It don't get no better than this....musically or spiritually. Thanks guys! ( thanks to the Goodman's for the fine lyrics ) This song has brought, I venture to say, untold hordes of downtrodden souls and gently prodded them into letting Jesus take over their lives. " Give up...let Jesus...take over." A simple message. But extremely powerful and anointed when sung in churches and revival tents all over the world. Amen brothers!

I agree ! I live in the small town that Dale was from. I can remember when we had Dale Shelnut day in May. It would be what they called an all night singing on the football field. My mother was one of his biggest fans,so I can remember many singings on that football field.

Yes....JG was my Dad and we had the Plee-zing Food Store on "T" St. If my guess is right, you are James and Aubrey Lott. Later on you worked for Dixie Lilly. I have catalpa worm trees that I got from your Dad, Aubrey Sr. I't s nice to hear from you. My Mom, Hazel, is 95 now and still with us. Dad passed away almost 5 years ago. Johnny Whitfield

Johnny I had the pleasure of listening to your father sing many times with the workman when I was a kid and my sister sang as soprano with them. A good man

First tenor that reminds me of Denver Crumbler. Nice.

Denver Crumpler had a beautiful Irish tenor voice. Coy Cook the tenor singer with this group was one of my late dad's favorite tenor singers.

I have not heard this song in over 40 years when we use to sing it at the Macon Georgia Church of God of Prophecy. It brings back such fond memories.

Glad to hear this song again by Dixie Echoes. This song was always better when sung in concert so the guys were not so constrained in their performance. DAle does this song better than anyone, as far as I'm concerned. Mom Alley's daughter

Right, J. G. Whitfield left the Florida Boys in 1958 and the Dixie Echoes started in 1960 according to their respective web sites.

Thanks for posting these great songs to show the kids how its to be done. And double thanks for the singer's names. Sometimes even the albums covers dont tell who is singing. I love Coys singing. I met him once while he was driving the bus for the Masters Five. Did J. G. Whitfield and Coy Cook leave the Dixie Echoes and form/join the Florida Boys or the other way around? My only regret is that once again, the bass player covers up the bass singer throughout much of the song.

JG started the Florida Boys...then left to start the Dixie Echoes.....JG was not as great a bass as it might seem...heard him many times.....good quartet bass, no real low, but he sang a lot in his 90+ years.
