A corded petticoat is definitely on my future projects list! Mostly because a crinoline doesn’t fit well in my wheelchair, so a corded petticoat is the next best thing. I also tend to history bounding, rather than make elaborate costumes. It’s all for my daily wardrobe. So I think a nice middle class working dress form the 1860s would make an excellent addition to my wardrobe. And a corded petticoat would actually be more likely to be worn under a work dress than a full on crinoline. So thank you for this video, it’s been saved for future reference!

I also have a 1860s skirt and blouse on my list of future projects, also to be worn over a corded petticoat. It’s going to be so useful.

I love how you did two different variations of the petticoat. Now I know the difference.

Thank you! I'm glad I did both, too! I can't remember if I said this in the video, but I would probably go with the tucked version for any future petticoats I make. The other version is really heavy and doesn't hold the skirt out anymore/any better, even after I added more cording closer to the waist.

I've seen another video of a corded petticoat where the seamstress sewed the back seam before putting in the cord. When putting in the cord, she just went in a continuous circle for each section she wanted for her petticoat. I believe the video was done be Abby Cox, if you are interested in taking a look at it.

Yes, Liz Clark mentioned she did it that way. The problem is that I do a waistband with a button opening instead of a drawstring, so, at a certain point, I cannot continue with that method. So I just opted to try the others :-)

Hi! I was wondering which historical garments you took reference from for this. Do you have the links by any chance?
