I've had a red oil pressure light flashing 5 seconds on, 5 seconds off for a while now. The mechanic tested everything and said the oil pressure was good. This is so incredibly helpful. Thank you!

Appreciate this, this allowed me to determine that this is a very simple repair I can do myself, and since I'm not really much of a mechanic it's super helpful to see how much it needs to be tightened, which is the main part I could screw up.

Thank you! I was getting the red oil pressure light telling me to shut off the engine. Your issue I believe is related to the level sender in the bottom of the oil pan

hey i have a 2012 volkswagen jetta gli and its basically looks exactly the same at the gti but sedan version, will i still be able to use a 24mm socket

It’s going to be the same. I’m pretty sure those are first gen EA888 TSI engines.

Question is it that much different on the 2015 GTI? I need to replace my sensor.

It’s going to be on the same side but it appears there may be 2 sensors. You may want to look and see if you have codes to determine which one is faulty. It should be at the oil filter housing.

I had error code P164D-00 I got a Duralast Oil Pressure Switch PS538 hopefully that works @@MobileCarMechanic

Excellent video and very helpful. Do you know if it's OK to use an aftermarket sensor? I see many available online but not sure what brand to order? Thanks bro, nice gti in white, mines black 2009 👍

It’s ok but what I’ve realized with aftermarket sensors is that either the connector doesn’t click in place or sensor is defective. This was ordered from FCP Euro didn’t end up working so I used one from advance auto parts. Only problem is the connector was loose but eventually stayed in place. I’d recommend going oem if you can. @@MobileCarMechanic thanks buddy I really appreciate the reply! I have been getting "oil pressure max engine speed 4000rpm" come on the dash recently. Checked the oil levels several times its near max. Got the oil pressure checked today and all is fine at idle and while it's being revved. Oil pump is in good order. I suspect the sensor. Ahh yeah the MK6 and MK7 have different engines I believe it’s a gen 3 instead of the gen 1 ea888

is the connector supposed to be a little lose or turn? i recently had the oil pressure warning show up on my car and did a quick look at the sensor and noticed the connector was lose

You should not be able to pull on it and have it unplug. If it stays connected then you are fine. Did you replace the sensor or is this the original?

On my 2010 I have engine off oil pressure with a red oil light. And after high revvs it said max 4000rpm. I cleaned the oil out. Cleaned the sump and pick up.. Could the oil sensor be the fault?

It could potentially be the issue but would recommend checking oil pressure with a mechanic gauge to make sure there isn’t a mechanic issue causing low oil pressure. Various things in this engine can cause oil pressure to drop such as a screen that breaks apart in the cam bridge or even the balance shafts, etc.

Was the oil pressure alarming at random or from something specific?

It would happen occasionally and then one day it just kept flashing the red oil light in the center display. Before replacing the sensor I did change the oil and filter to see if that made a difference in which it didn’t. After replacing the sensor the issue went away.

Hi, I have a light that comes on without leaving errors in the diagnosis. Could "Oil pressure engine speed max 4000 rpm" be that sensor? Thank you

I’d check your oil level, scan with a scan tool to see if you have sensor codes, check the connector for the oil pressure sensor to see if there is oil. Also check oil pressure using a gauge if pressure sensor checks out good.

Do you need to clear the fault with OBD?

I didn’t need to as it was a oil pressure warning on the instrument cluster that would tell me to shut off the engine. The check engine light never came on. It may save fault history in the computer but that will need to be cleared with VCDS or OBDeleven. Otherwise nothing is set CEL wise

You may want to check actual oil pressure. But these engines tick due to the fuel injectors.

@@MobileCarMechanic looking for too much ? Or little ? Also had gotten an oil change recently at valvoline but I checked the oil level completely cold and warm and both was over the max line.. could that cause the extra ticking I’m hearing ?
