3 recommendations 1 is putting rtv on the gasket and cover before putting it on to secure it into place, not alot, just a light application 2 is USE A GASKET SKRAPER! No need to nick any aluminum 3 always be sure that you don't spray into the head, just apply enough to a old rag to clean the mating surface of the head to gasket.

Thanks for putting this together. I just did the valve cover gasket (along with the seals and grommets) on my 2004 Honda Accord. This is probably the same difficulty, but in a different way than the 2004 Honda. With the 04, I pulled the power steering hose away from the power steering unit since it went over the corner of the cover. I don't see that issue here. But for this generation, there's a LOT more electrical connections to disconnect (but at least the power steering hose isn't an issue). Is there a reason you didn't do the grommets and seals while you had it off? One criticism would be cleaning parts sitting inside the car. You could have easily gotten brake fluid/cleaner on your paint. Far better (in my opinion) to put things on the ground, away fro the car, to clean them. Think I'll pull the negative battery connection as well to be on the safe side. All in all, nice work!

Not sure to be honest, I know the red piece is integrated into the cover which I believe is the PCV valve, the cover on the right side of the engine covers the high pressure fuel pump. I don’t see the squarish grommet in the middle that you are talking about.
@MrLevi13610 ай бұрын
Thank you for responding. At 15:40 the small squarish gasket can be seen on the valve cover close to cyl 2-3. There is another evacuation port at 11:25 going toward the high pressure fiul pump one toward the main air duct and one back to the intake manifold. Im trying to understand how this valve cover integrated PCV system works. From which port and in what direction vapors and fresh air is moving? This 2.4l engine has no EGR valve at all?

Honestly I haven’t had that happen with this car. But you can try lifting the cover to apply tension to the bolt to see if it helps. If it’s spinning the recessed thread that holds it in place is moving and maybe you can try to lift up on the nut somehow to pop it out the recessed thread.

It's a shame that Honda ended up doing what everyone else. Saving money by putting plastic valve covers, that's the reason why they leak.
@MobileCarMechanic10 ай бұрын
It’s a bummer but honestly it leaks the same way as any valve cover gasket, just sucks they integrated the PCV into the valve cover! Even my civic with a metal cover leaks after sometime with a rubber valve cover gasket. Rubber degrades overtime!

Hey, I got a P0507 code after this, did anybody else get this? Everything is reconnected. The light comes and goes.
@MobileCarMechanic Жыл бұрын
Try this procedure to relearn idle values after you have double checked connections. You will need to clear the light with either a scan tool or disconnect the battery for 30 seconds. You do not need an HDS which is a higher end scan tool. May need to repeat procedure multiple times. imgur.com/a/puckNYl

Can you start the car right away. Or are you really supposed to wait 3 hrs?? Because I got things to do and places to be after the replacement lmao! FR
@MobileCarMechanic8 ай бұрын
It’s recommended that you wait otherwise it’s going to leak as it won’t dry in time and then the oil will contaminate it and make it not cure. So do this when you have free time or have another vehicle.

Really confused on which of these have tube seals. Seems weird that your 2016 doesn't need them but it sounds like the 2017 does? SO strange Honda would just do this for a single year unless it didn't work out for them. Looks like I'm just going to tear my 2017 apart to figure out exactly what I need before ordering more stuff.
@MobileCarMechanic4 ай бұрын
It is weird, I had a 2013 that i worked on recently and the tube seals were replaceable, They used small torx screws if i remember correctly to hold them in place.
@josephphillips8654 ай бұрын
@@MobileCarMechanic I just today pulled the cover on my 2017 and they are not replaceable. The coils are dry so no leak at least.

All kinds of stuff entered the engine. Drill not necessary, and more work than it should be. Plastic scraper is all that’s needed. And the spark plug gaskets just pull out with a screw driver and pliers. 🤦🏼♂️
@MobileCarMechanic Жыл бұрын
Yes you can use a plastic scraper. Made sure nothing had entered. Some models of this generation accord have integrated spark plug tube seals in which this one did. I ordered the kit with the seals and unfortunately couldn’t replace them. Even verified via VIN at the parts desk at Honda which stated that it was not replaceable.

Watching the old RTV fly all over the exposed valve train with the drill stressed me out. I've found a fresh razor blade is sufficient.

Razor blades are sufficient. Made sure to clean everything off camera. Thanks for the comment!

Homie said you don’t need to change the o rings. Yet one was full of oil lol
@MobileCarMechanic Жыл бұрын
The spark plug tube seals are built into the valve cover. Realized that one of them collapsed. When I put it back in its position the oil stopped leaking into the spark plug tubes. Cleaned it off camera. All is good now. Cheers!

So the dealership and went through basically tighten every damnable in that damn car to the point where I need a breaker bar on every bolt the stupid little plastic piece on top I had to rip off then take off the bolts because I was afraid I was going to rip some shit off my damn oil drain plug plus so fucking impacted on I had to leave it take my impact and work with it oil filter dude was so packed on there that it took me and my dad and the cousin to basically move this bitch out the way and we just said fuck it in stamp the oil filter with a screwdriver put a handle on there then putting extension handle on there than just every one of us has grabbed onto just pulled it off and the car has not been turned on for almost 3-4 hours

Sorry to hear that. I’d be super annoyed. I feel your pain. Lots have words have been said off camera for some of the dumb things I’ve experienced when fixing things on cars. Hopefully it will be easier next time. Cheers!

Probably the gasket used is made in China, my 2012 Camry still have no leak until now.

We did use an aftermarket one before the original, definitely failed fast. How many miles are on your Camry?

This video had me cringing. 1. Using a wire wheel to clean off the gasket residue and 2. pouring the brake cleaner ( with a mix of old oil from the valve cover) onto the driveway floor. At least you get a new valve cover with oil spots on the floor now. I'd be livid
