I always wanted to own a hydraulic press, and now I finally came around to build my own! Tons of stuff you can do with such a press except of forging!!
There are still some mods I have to do, but I'm pretty happy about the result!
Have fun!!

The first machine I ever built from scratch was a hydraulic press because I thought I could build one for cheaper. In the end I spent about the same. Haha

Much agreed on the price when regarding smaller units. But finding a press built like this one would be difficult. The Jet and Grizzly 35/50 ton press uprights are just flat bar. No rigidity to them. I work on an offshore platform and we have a Jet 35 ton press we use for bearings and such. It works great. But it does have a bit of deflection that I attribute to the flat bar not being built from structural steel. But what do I know. I'm just a lowly automation engineer whose software skills(weak though they may be) are supplemented by a lifetime of farming activities where my mechanic skills have helped out a lot.

I had a long cylinder on mine but rebuilt it to use a shorter cylinder. I had issues with it flexing. Maybe since yours is secured to a plate that’s bolted and along with lower tonnage, you might be alright. Still a nice Hefty build regardless

Stick/Arc welding is the only way to weld I-beams for the ultimate strength. This proves that you're the real deal and not some hack like a bunch of others that MIG everything. You did an excellent job on the hydraulic press, bro!

That's funny, I suppose every structural steel building being made these days will collapse. Nothing wrong with mig welding so long as the the correct process is being used for the job. Gas shielded flux cored arc welding (fcaw) is every bit as strong as the (smaw) stick welders it has replaced in a growing number of industries. It's even being used in California and other areas prone to earthquakes. The type of mig welding being done by the average guy with solid core wire (gmaw) isn't likely to produce as deep a penetration on thicker steel it's still more than adequate to build a forging process that will last a lifetime. I wouldn't have agreed with anything I just wrote twenty years ago and it still a hotly contested subject with many, times have changed though.

At around 5:50 you weld a mounting plate to the end of the Ram to fix it to the frame... Why not just make a bracket to receive the ram end as is... That way if you've to replace the ram later you won't have to weld onto the new ram to fit it to the frame?

Wasted.

Using the 'I' or H beam is massive over design, I made a comparable unit with 4" channel, this _looks_ pretty but should have cost about half as much if designed better. I suppose it depends on whether you are looking for pretty or the right price for the capability you're looking for.
