Hi Gaz Just a suggestion 😉 Put lowest barrel on the floor, that should help headroom above, but downside is it will mean a bit of fanning around with pipework, but you'll do some pipe mods anyways if you stagger the height. Drains will work with tees facing either way just mean a slightly slower empty rate, and if you only emptying one at time then this shouldn't be a major headache, plus you could always add a ¾" overflow to the last/lowest barrel, directly to the pond in line to stop flooding your filter house. I don't know much about ponds/koi but worked on a few water treatment system in my occupation Hope it goes well for you Warren
@GazsKoiPond2 жыл бұрын
That will be added mate at some point an over flow, also an auto cut off if the pond level drops more than 5", the drains do work with the tee's, but no where as near as good it was before in testing, It makes back pressure and slows it down so they will be changed, Thanks for watching Warren 👍👍

I did try to tell ya bud a pump even at the lowest setting is still 10 times faster than your hose pipe but at least its an easy fix bud you'll have it sorted in no time when Wrighty first made the barrel systems he started off straight and found out it didn't work like that I remember watching that video of his like 5 years ago but once there up and running you can't beat a 3 barrel system in my opinion better than a top of the range drum the only difference is you have to clean it yourself 🤣

Hi, i had similar problems trying to push 14000 litres through 4 large Nitritech vortex's one just a vortex then sponge then moving bed and finally Alfagrog via 2 UV's in parallel. I Teed in between the sponge and the moving bed moving bed (as the moving bed clogged it's outlet) to a Tempest I also divert past all the filters with approx 25% of the water.🤓
@johncope74712 жыл бұрын
It will deffo be worth it in the end Gaz 👍 I would go static bed,moving bed,moving bed as the static bed does most of the mechanical filtration leaving two moving for bio 👍👍😀

I enjoy watching people's builds yours reminded me of my first attempt 20years ago and I made same mistakes too . I built my system after watching wrighty builds . skimmer .seive & barrel systems but I used 5 220 litre barrels instead and 3inch /2 inch piping & fittings as came free from where I work . I'm glad I built mine when I did but made the mistake of buying more K-1 Media than needed . Next project is a bakki shower

Assuming the pipes connecting the tanks are 1.5" then the water levels between the tanks will vary by approx 10cm for 10000lph. If you increase the interconnecting pipework to 2" then it should be more like 3cm for the same flow. Nice update by the way. I enjoy watching self build filter ideas.
@GazsKoiPond2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ian the feed in is 1.5" and the all the rest that link and return is 2", its been fun to make and regardless of the problems with it, I have had fun making it 👍👍
@ianh30982 жыл бұрын
@@GazsKoiPond Good that the interlinks are 2". It should make your fix a bit easier. Maybe when it is complete you could highlight the relative water levels. It would be interesting (for me at least 🙂) to see how well the theoretical levels compare to reality.

Cut the pipe either side of the tee spin it 180 degrees use the straight connector to rejoin the pipe very quick and simple .. slide valves will be at the bottom but looks like you have enough room personally I don't think it will matter that much on the sweep pointing the wrong way as its only a drain so not really critical your flap valve will work better on the vertical section of pipe up to the pump the water pushing down under gravity will hold it shut better in the vertical plane

Looking good, I've just built a 5 barrel system on one level like yours, a swirl filter, 2 static k1, moving bed then alpha grog in the last one. Had same problem as you with over flowing the first barrel. To solve the issue I diverted the incoming flow to another small barrel, down flowing through a spray bar over alpha grog ( trickle filter) and added another standpipe(making 2 on each) to the 4 barrels with media in. Working brilliant now, just got to solve a slight issue with fines coming through the trickle filter. Have plans to add a Cetus in the future, when wife forgives me the project time and cost 🤣🤣. Like you, have loved learning as building. Great job!!! And keep having fun👍👍👍
