In this video I show how I built a 4 loop switcher. These are useful for making pedals which are not true bypass into true bypass, shortening your signal chain length by bypassing large loops of pedals when not in use, and for quickly switching off or on more than one pedal at a time with a single footswitch.
Info which I adapted to make this pedal:

This is a great vid and I’m going to build one with an addition. I’m going to add power jack outs for each channel so the pedals that are in each loop can get power from this looper. I’m sure I’ll need to find a way to do that, but since I’ll use mine for OD/drive, the mA for all 4 would be under 500 mA I’m sure. Great video man.

Interesting! I bought a used one, and it works, but produces loud hum when connected to a distorted channel on my amp. Got a few interesting isolation tips from your video that I’ll try out to get rid of the hum.

Nice proect. I've been looking at making the same sort of rig, but finding the initial metal box has me at a dead end right off. I want something larger than 10 inches(that's what she said)
@LiamOConnorAudio
@LiamOConnorAudio 5 жыл бұрын
It would be great to find a longer one but these are the largest standardized enclosure sizes that are easy to find. You might have to go down the road of custom ordering something but that would drive up the cost. The alternative I was thinking of doing was to simply build a second one exactly the same and use them both.
@satchmodog2
@satchmodog2 5 жыл бұрын
@@LiamOConnorAudio yes, the second box sounds like the way to go. Since I run a loop and pedals up front, I can just do it that way. If I come across a larger box I will let you know. Cheers!

Cool stuff! You could have packed 5 or 6 stomps by having the jack inputs/outputs using more height in the background instead of aligning them straight, but it don't lower the quality of your work :)
@LiamOConnorAudio
@LiamOConnorAudio 5 жыл бұрын
Thats true. My main worry is that I'm using a hand drill so the accuracy is not as good as it could be. If i had a drill press it would be easy to add one or two extra loops to it and still have everything fit.

Awesome! Just wanna ask - why use plastic mono jacks and not all metal jacks?
@LiamOConnorAudio
@LiamOConnorAudio 4 жыл бұрын
One should be metal to ground the casing and the rest are plastic to help avoid creating a ground loop which would cause unwanted noise.

Do pedal makers ever wire up their components on a template and then transfer it to an enclosure? Like you might do when putting together a wiring harness for a guitar? Haven't made a pedal yet. Trying to learn what I can.
@graxjpg
@graxjpg Жыл бұрын
Breadboards are usually where prototyping is best done for pedals. It’s a similar concept to making a template for a wiring harness, except you just put the components on an interconnected grid like legos.

Cool video! I need to build something very similar like this but a 5 selector with 3 of the 5 selectors as 'either/or' i.e. only one of the three activates when pressed (kinda like a toggle option). Any ideas how to do this? I'm stumped!
@josiahlee1982
@josiahlee1982 4 жыл бұрын
You need to look into microcontroller technology. Basically you use a momentary switch with a programmable ic and a relay. Go to madbean pedals shop and look at their softie switch. It’s in the same kind of ballpark. Also join the diy stomp box community on Facebook.

I'm a newbie at this but I do know that the footswitches are tricky to wire correctly, you can find some great drawings online for this. Also I don't know if you're aware, but you need some resistors for the LED's or else they burn out. There's calculators online to figure what value depending on the color of LED. Also be sure that one of your 1/4" jacks is grounded to the chassis. Hope this helps.
