DIY 48V 1000 Watt Rear Hub Motor Ebike

Hey guys
In this vid I show a recent ebike conversion using an ebay 48 volt 1000 watt rear hub kit and DIY Lithium battery using recycled Samsung 30Q high drain 18650 cells.

Nice setup but why not go with the mid drive motor kit like the bafang bbshd 1000w. Its very powerful and can use all the gears

Hi This is more of a throttle only bike, although I do pedal but don't need to change gears. This bike does everything I need it to. This was also a budget build, the bbshd would be nearly three times the cost. I have a 250w bafang on another bike, theyre good. Thanks for watching

Very useful! I was wondering how your Voilamart is behaving three years down the track? I live rural and would need 45k actual range with smallish hills involved. I was thinking that might be 60k to be safe, would that be14S 6P, not sure how that equates to Ah? I would love to get second hand celIs, but would be worried about being ripped off. Is it cheaper for a newbie to build their own (new), or get something off the shelf? You obviously have a lot of battery knowledge, I was wondering if you have any interest in sourcing battery parts yourself and selling parts for self-assembly or as complete kits? Tall ask, but you never know!! Many thanks.

Hi Sorry for the late reply. I would highly recommend the voilamart kit. I think that pack was 14s 5p. I would have a go at building a battery if you have some electrical knowledge, otherwise maybe try and find someone who could build one for you. If not off the shelf might be the go. Hope that helps

Hi! What size wheels are you using on the bike? Do you think 26" or 28" or better? Nice video.

How is acceleration from stop? I have sidemotor left side of back wheel, but I'm thinking to buy rearhub. My bike pulls well at 20-30kph, but from stop it could be better.

Hi mate Acceleration is not great off the mark but with a couple of pedals it gets up to speed quickly. Hub motors are generally like this. I don't find it a problem though. Hope that helps

Wow Offgrid dreaming! Those batteries look really professional! Where did you source the batteries? Did you say they're recycled? How do you know how to do this stuff? Very impressive! I'm researching hub motor stuff and gathering as much info as i can in order to get the best 'bang for buck' setup. Love your work!

Do you have the controller in the frame bag? Doesnt it overheat?

Hi Yes it was in the bag but did get a little hot in summer. I've since mounted it to the frame in front of the bag. It stays very cool now so will last longer. Thanks for the comment 😁

Offgrid Dreaming yeah nice bike.did you mount it underneath the frame at the bottom? And how did you mount it?

@@shashatheonly yes at the front above the bottom bracket just so it clears gutters etc. I spayed it matt black so it blends in a bit better. I really wanted to keep it in the bag but more important that it lasts longer. It's an awesome bike and great to ride. I'll do a follow up vid on it soon. I've put around 400 km on it now 😎

I believe you could, just be careful of overheating, particularly at lower speeds
